Ok, so today i was bored and i decided to make a quick map. I came up with a sort of cube-maze that either test your IQ, or give you something boring to do for a long time. Anyways, i came up with a maze, its not a maze like a path with dead ends or anything like a normal maze is. I came up with a cube maze. The way it works is... There are 9 rooms in this version (I might make a bigger/better/advanced version if you think it would be a good idea.)
Anyways, 9 rooms. The map only has 1 room, but it changes between rooms with switches. Every room looks exactly the same. And has 4 exits, one on each wall.

Each room has a number made of 4 digits. Each digit represents a coordinate of the rooms location. Let me show you a map...

Alright, now you see 9 rooms, each on connected some way or another. You see the numbers in the corners? Thats the room number (coordinate), i will explain how they work...
4 digits, Each digit means something different
- The first digit displays the rooms Row
- The second digit displays the rooms Column
- The third digit displays the rooms forwardside column ( // )
- The fourth digit displays the rooms backside column ( \\ )
Simple, yes?

Well this was a test version, it only has 9 rooms, which makes it pretty easy.
This version has no eye candy, no camera effects, only music, and a marine to navigate. But if the idea sounds good to you, i will add cool panning effects, and things in the room to make each room similar, yet slightly different, to make it easier to memorize and also make it less plain.
Give me feedback please.

Sounds cool. It sounds like a small version of the horror b-movie Cube, which was surprisinly interesting. biggrin.gif

I think that you should make each room instead of using one over and over. Then you can look on the minimap and see where you havent been.

This is definetly a neat idea. If you've ever played Kenoli's Puzzle Adventure maps, you could make something similar to that with this. Except it would be even more complicated because you are moving about the faces of a cube. If it remains possible, re-using the same room makes things more interesting because it is harder to tell where you've been before without memorizing the rooms.

You could make a sequel to this called the Illusion Tesseract.

id love to see more members introduce maps that require the player to use skills of logic/problem solving and memory. good luck with it. maybe you could introduce items, such as keys to unlock certain doors, or scrolls, that give the player hints?

That would ruin the entire point of the map, and it wouldnt be confusing anymore -.-

Anyways, i like your idea Electroid, Items, Enemies, Ect... I made this version, but it was small, 9 rooms, no enemies, or anything, it still has a few bugs for player 2, when i fix them i will post it so you can 'test' the concept. Just keep in mind that this is a demo, not the real thing, so dont start judging it yet.

I will probably make a better version. But it will be a long time before i start on it. I am currently working on a RPG project (for the RPG contest). And it will take me a long time to finish that. I am not releasing any information on the RPG yet, but look forward to some info on it in the future.

Reminds me of those old 4d levels I used to mess with in an old game called descent. Due to the way the engine worked you could string pathways inside of other pathways indefinitely as long as none of their walls 'touched'. I made some really messed up crap with that.

Anyway it's cool, but more concept than map (obviously). Though I can't really think of a way to make good gameplay with this.

Sounds like Empyrean Castle, or something like that... It was a map a while back that used a similar idea, but not intermixing the levels. (It was only a linear enter room exit into next room thing.)

Tuxedo, i guess your right that this is more of a 'concept'.
And i have decided to make a much.. much bigger version.
Although, this new version wont have such a scattered and random map.
This version will have... 100 rooms, and instead of a room connecting to another random room, the rooms will connect linear. This version will have a story, cool events, and some puzzles.

PS: Im working on the map now, and i will enter it into the RPG contest.
Some of you might be thinking 'this isnt an rpg'. But you have to think, what does RPG mean? Role Playing Game, Where YOU take the role of a single character. Nothing else defines an RPG. An RPG does not have to have level ups, enemies, or bosses/quests. All an RPG needs is a character, and a story.

Yea, i do, but i have 3 months to do it. Ive been working on it alot, and i havent even gotten to the triggers yet, even though the triggers are about 90% of the work. Ive been mostly drawing the maze on paper, and thinking up good story and events. I dont want to get ahead of myself.

ADDITION:
Oh, this is Mp)Trance by the way, i changed my name.

Looks like a great concept... But it also looks like it would be hard to keep the players playing.... Like it might get kinda borring kinda fast!

Good luck!
