Staredit Network -> Ideas -> Should I trigger some music/souind effects?

im thinking about attatching some music/sound effects to my new map, World of Poker, which is a multiplayer game, and i believe it will gain alot of popularity.

however, im hesitating to do it, because a music loop will take a long time to download on battlenet, and players may not bother to download it.

also, if i do decide to attatch sounds, what will entertain the players more, 3-4 sound effects or 1 music loop played throughout the entire game?

oh, and guys, before you suggest it, i have already lowered the quality of my sound files. i now have a music loop that is 500kb and so far 3 sound effects that are 350kb. i cant get them any lower.

Maps with music in them and battle.net. Not the best combination.

A music file that fits the theme would maybe increase the feeling. But as soon as the music starts to annoy someone he can't just turn off music volume.

And triggering the music to make it stoppable when stepping on a location is hard because you need to split the music.

yeh good point man. the triggering doesn't worry me, its the map size. i think i will make 2 different versions. 1 with music for SEN users, and another for mass broadcasting.

The impatience of battle.net people is their problem, not yours. If you compromise for it, you sell out your art and encourage a behaviour it would be better to discourage...

well, not necessarily, if the loop is not insanely long, he could stop it from starting the next loop instead of ending instatenously.

I agree. Music is a good idea. Personally, when I play on Battle.net, I wait for a map to DL, music or not. However, you are right that it might not get distributed, and this sounds like a really good map, so that'd be a bad thing.
I suppose the choice is really up to you, but if you do choose to make a version with music for SEN, I'd personally prefer to download that one.
But still, battle.net people can be unbearably annoying and impatient...

yeh ill make 2-3 different versions.
1 - distributing version
2 - music loop version
3 - sound effects version

thanks for the feedback, i have a great feeling about this map. i have all the triggers up and running like magic. i just need to add a few final touches, then i can start testing it within the next couple of days.
