Alright, Im making an RPG, i wont release MUCH information on it, because i want most of it to be left unknown until the release.
I will tell you a few things about it.
You and 3 other players awaken in a square room.
Player one has a small computer STUCK on his chest.
This computer contains an AI that talks to you.
The AI is female, her name is SEN (;O)
This AI doesnt release much info on how you got here, or why you are here.
The bit of info she does release: Your inside a huge cube.
Still unknown where you are, you and the players explore.
Soon they realize they are very lost, this cube isnt simple to understand, its like some kind of maze, and every room looks the same.
You and the other 3 players must find the exit to this cube.
And uncover the story behind how you got here, and why, along the way out.
There will be many cutscenes.
There will be puzzles.
There will be confusion.
There are no enemies, and no level ups.
There will be suprises.
There will be 100+ rooms.
Teamwork will be REQUIRED.

This is what i have come up with so far. I have a few event/puzzle ideas. But i wont release them, i want them to be a suprise. But i still need more events and puzzle ideas. The rooms arent very big, about 1 screenfulll each. So try not to give me puzzles that cant fit into small rooms. I should be able to stretch a puzzle across more than one room though, if seriously required.
For example:
You enter one of the rooms, and see another person exiting this room ahead of you. You have to chase this person down, or try to. Using buttons to lock/unlock doors, you have to trap this person.
I need many puzzle ideas. And i also need cutscene event ideas too, like cutscenes that dont include story, but will give the player a sense of how this cube works. For example:
You walk into a room, and see another man, but before you can get him to notice you, he is killed by a trap of some sort. This will tell the players that this cube isnt nice, and its very dangerous.
I'm supposing you saw Hypercube.
The first or the second?
I actually did see that movie, but i didnt get this idea from it. If you can beleive that, it really is true. It started out as a completely different idea, but in the end, it turned out similar to hypercube. But the story wont be the same, just the cube concept. So dont be pessemistic yet.

I WOULD make a zone of the enders RPG, but if i tried to make a ZOE RPG on starcraft, it would not be able to near the gameplay of ZOE. Zone of the Enders is one of the best games ive played, and i dont want to bring it down by making a crappy SC map about it, because an SC version would pale immensely to the origional. this map sounds really well thought out and logical, which is great, but i hope its too difficult. 100 locations/routes sounds like it could never end! about the AI that talks to you, its a good idea, but what if the player with the AI leaves the game? is it vital to have all the players to complete the game?
Yes, it is vital to have all four characters. The game requires teamwork of all four to complete some puzzles. So if someone leaves, they will have to start over. For that reason, i might implement passwords, so that they can continue at certain points. And the problem doesnt lie in the fact that player one has the AI. The AI is just text talking. The reason you need all four people is because to enter a room, all four players must be standing at the same door. The players cannot split up. For this fact, all four players are required.
this sounds like the type of map that requires a very experienced map maker. if you are, then i really look forward to this map, as id really like to see more maps with a bit of skill and problem solving, instead of the usual kill and upgrade games. best of luck.
What would be really cool... Like give more then a few puzzles and stuff in some rooms. So like you accually can take differnt paths and like change the game up each time you play it....
and for puzzle ideas i would kinda need 2 the map ><! And see where your going with it... >< Mby later since we in the same clan!

So is this based on the movie "Cube" or not? And will there be a mathematical puzzle to get from room to room to eventually find the exit as it is in the movie, or do you want some other logical equation for finding an exit?

Devilin, no i doubt this is based on cube. The rooms will have numbers, but they are mostly for trying to remember if you have been here or not already. Im just taking the CONCEPT of cube, and making a completely different story and system out of it.

I'm unsure of the no 'enemies' thing. Although I know it's going to be very puzzle-based, it's going to be a bit difficult to appeal to the general SC audience, because most of us (or at least me) like to see action. Lots of it.
Are the puzzles going to be in order or randomized? Are the puzzles going to vary in difficulty, or will it become progressively more difficult? Are you planning to only include patternal-style puzzles, or will you add in puzzles that actually require some academic courses (let's say you'll need to understand chemistry or physics in order to solve the problem)?
I just might be interested in helping you devise some puzzles...after you answer those questions.

Im using Nine rooms. One with four exits. Four with 3 exits, and four with 2 exits. They will repeat over and over. So yes i do have it easy on the terrain.
The puzzles wont be randomized, but alot of them will be optional. No, people wont need academic knowledge to complete some of the puzzles. I want puzzles that everyone can do. And i want some to be very very hard, and some to be somewhat easy. I want alot of variance.

And as for screenies of the gameplay, well i havent MADE ANY GAMEPLAY YET. Because im still DRAWING the maze. And i dont have any puzzles to put down yet, because none of you are helping.
OK, if you need to see a screenie of the room, i will give it to you. This is the size of all of the rooms, there are 100 of these rooms. Try to think of puzzles that can fit into this.

This map sorta sounds like Labyrinthos and The Puzzling mixed together
which really isent a bad thing O.O, but I sorta need a better picture of

i suggest you watch the movie cube. cause there really won't be much terrain.

i actually think that some of my boss battle ideas could be converted into puzzles for this map lol. were you planning on having any fighting at all(including in puzzles)?
Chrono, that is all the terrain there is. There are no other rooms. They are all exactly that size. So try to figure out some puzzles you can fit into the map.
Zeratul, I might have boss battles if you want to try to give me ideas. But make sure the bosses have to be hurt by some kind of puzzle. The players will never attack an enemy directly, always indirectly (with a puzzle).
For instance, the boss might shoot 3 attacks at the enemy, and then 3 out of 8 beacons will light up, step on the lit up beacons to damage the boss. See?
But just know, you will have to find a way to fit it all into one of those small rooms.
100 PUZZLES!? ...damn that is alot
i can't even think of one at the moment...
I think it would b easier if you just used 1 bigger box, like 20x20 and did like 40 or somethin puzzles in that one, everytime u complete one it resets to a new one
There arent going to be 100 puzzles, just 100 rooms, there wont be a puzzle for every room. Probably 40 puzzles in all. Ive already come up with a good puzzle for the end of the game.
Think of the game as a maze, with alot of rooms, and alot of the rooms have puzzles. So you have to find your way out of this maze, and finish the puzzles along the way. There will be alot of optional puzzles. And also some secret ones too
. The secret ones are all optional, and they will probably be the hardest of all the puzzles. Im still thinking of good prizes you get for finishing the secret puzzles.
