What are strings?
I'm not a newb map maker, it's just I've never messed with them before.
they are like unwanted attatchments ^_^... such as a commen("whatever"); Whatever is the string or DisplayText("Hey You", 4); Hey You is the string or even just unit names are strings so yeah thats all i know about strings really never payed much notice too them
Strings are any lines of text that you change. Each location name is a string, each unit name is a string, if you change them. Each display text is a string. Each comment is a string. The map name is a string, and the description is a string. Switch names are strings. Briefings are strings.
Um, typically when you change a location/unit/switch name it's wanted. When you create a comment to describe a trigger it's wanted. When you display text it's wanted.
Strings aren't "attached" to text, the text ARE strings.
Also here's more info about strings. In regular editors like SCXE, the string limit is 1024. In SCMD2 it lets you go above that limit and create more than 1024 strings. The string limit isn't really the true limit. And you shouldn't worry about hitting 1024 strings unless you're making an RPG with a lot of dialogue or something.
Every wav also uses a string the text being the path name of the wav.
Oh ok, and the string menu is a menu for like quick changes so you wouldn't have to go searching for a trigger or something and so you wouldn't have to open multiple windows to change just a couple things of text? Oh and btw, how do you change switch names...
i dont know how to do it on SF but on xtra editor its as simple as clicking it then pressing rename
Yeah I need to know for SF... =/
i dont believe you can on SF i just use another editor for string names.
Starforge can't edit string names; you can just keep track of which switch you used for what in your head.
I personally just keep a text file telling me what all my death counters and switches are used for in all my maps. It works out rather well for me, and I'd definitely suggest it.

Strings are like rope or yarn, but thinner and more fragile.
