well, you can make units go slower by moving/creating burrowed unnits under them.

well, i have a method for some units to go faster. although it is fugly and can mess things up severly. it involves having an air unit that is faster than your primary unit. when the PU moves, it goes normally. when the air unit moves, the PU is moved underneath the air unit.

The only other option I can think of besides of what was just mentioned would be changing the actual game speed using a p13 or p14 unit.

can you do that while the game is running? although it doesn't quite achieve a variable effect anyways.

I remember seeing a map that let you turn it on and off. Neat, but not particularly useful.

hows that possible... i thought 2x/4x speed required the unit to be the very first placed on the map. did they just give it to another player to toggle it off?

It was a powerup, a worker could pick it up to turn the effect off, and then killed, dropping it, to turn it back on.
