Report, edit, etc...Posted by Clokr_ on 2004-07-31 at 12:54:22
I just released a new PROEdit version:

Features finisheds / bugs fixeds:
QUOTE
-Added a File menu with the options "Open map", "Open chk", "Save map" and "Save chk".
-Removed the string section from Compression window and added it as a new feature: "String editor".
-Created a new Compression window with more options.
-Added combos to Compression window that allows the user to compress in 2 methods as fast as clicking a button.
-New feature: CUWPSE (Create Unit With Properties Slot Editor).
-String editor: Added a section with option buttons that have the same features that the menu, but more user-friendly.
-String editor: Now you can edit a string with double click on it.
-String editor: Added a button and a option in the right click menu for create a new string.
-Upgraded protection level to protection level 6.
-Fixed some minor bugs.

Information:
This time compression is a lot more user-friendly, it has a new window, with new options, and compression "combos". The compression "combos" does a list of actions automatically, so you don't need to do them. You can check what the compression combos do clicking on the '?' button.

Also I added a new feature, "CUWPSE" or Create Units With Properties Slot Editor. A CUWPS is a slot that stores unit properties, that are used on the CreateUnitWithProperties trigger action. This allow you to use StarForge for make that triggers and/or recycle them (the max is 64, but you can use one slot in more than one trigger, so you can have more than 64 CreateUnitWithProperties actions).

I added a a button for set the string max on the string editor, but get in mind that the StarCraft character max is 65535, and you CAN'T get more than that characters, so if you have a buch of small strings you can increase the string max, if your strings are long, stick with the 1024 default max. Also a map with a string max that is not 1024 won't be openable in staredit or any of its modded versions (Emerald patches/SCXE/etc).

About bugs, the 'Map Colors' feature doesn't work in some computers (it runs fine in mine). The 'Map Colors' feature should work without any map opened.

Download:
- Download PROEdit 1.4.1 here

NOTE: You need the VB Runtimes too. You can download them from that page.
NOTE2: MPQControl is included this time in PROEdit's zip.

Installation:
For install PROEdit just uncompress all the files inside the zip in a folder. Then just double click on PROEdit.exe for run it. If you want to have it in the desktop, make a direct link there, but don't move the .exe (that could cause bugs).

Bug reports:
If you found a new bug you should post it here. When posting a bug be sure to tell me what you did for get that bug happen. Tell me the error message, if any, and post the map if you can. I won't answer to bug reports like "PROEdit doesn't work for me" or "Yesterday I was working hardly in a map and then it crashed and I lost all my work".

Creator notes:
I think that PROEdit is an useful utility that all PC map makers should have. If you don't want to protect your maps, you can use PROEdit for other things, like compression your map for make it smaller or as a string editor. Also its CUWPSE allow you to recycle the slots, breaking staredit's limit of 64 CreateUnitWithProperties actions.
Anyway, I think that I won't make new features this summer, maybe release a version just for fix bugs, or if I make a better protection, but just that. Also I'm learning c++ and if I get a good level at it I will stop making PROEdit and I will try to make a c++/vb full editor (heimdal's style tongue.gif)

I know...i redownloaded it last night because i wanted to edit strings and stuff. I got it to work but everytime i do something in the string editor and press ok it gives me an error.

But this is wicked awesome....and it looks like you did that compression thing that carlsagan posted up on blizzforums.

I was wondering if you could add a different protection method similiar to guedit where it just makes the map smaller. Then that would be some hardcore compression.

The OK button is not close the window. The OK button is do the actions that you selected above. I usually use the right click menu, it works 100% fine.

Also, what do you mean with that compression? It already have the compression combos if you don't want to mess with the string editor.

Good to see you've updated it, and until errors are located a working compression system. It seems we are both going to be working on VB/C++, maybe in the future we should combine efforts, though you seem a little further ahead than me.

It kills the wavs if the listfile is corrupted (bug created by StarForge and sometimes SCMDraft2 too)

If the listfile is corrupted - a condition that's easy to diagnose, as the symptoms are fairly obvious (StarEdit says "Cannot open filename.scx for writing, or something like that whenever you try to save, even though it really does save) - you can repair it by opening the map in an MPQ Editor (I use WinMPQ) and deleting the listfile. Open the map in StarEdit, save, and voila, it's fixed. In case you wanted to know smile.gif.

Hey, Clokr_, it's been a while. Haven't seen you since SF forums died.

Anyway, it's pretty good, compared to the last version I've ever gotten from you (1.2) I like it.
