SEN is not a democracy, and Moose is not one to change his mind, hear the advice of others, or do things requiring work on his part. Perhaps, if we all wield hammers, place the idea on his head, and pound away, something may occur! I'm only kidding, but changing the Tutorials Database into a Wiki is something extremely important to think about. It would certainly be far more useful in Wiki format. You would be able to include much more information, which could in turn be browsed much faster and more efficiently. Anyone would be able to update the information at any time, so the Wiki would likely fill up very quickly will all sorts of map making information, making it infintely more useful than the current, limited use Tutorials Database.

But what if JoeSpamson goes in and pastes "LOLOLOL! THIS TUT SUX. EVERY1 NOZ ET!"?

It would need a bit of moderation.. Tutorial Keepers would have a new job. xD

Me, Kenoli, and Cheeze at the very least (oh and Legacy too tongue.gif.) That's how wikipedia.com works, it's how all wikis work. It is an issue that has long since been adressed and is not a problem.

That basically is our job at the moment... This would just make it easier on edits for us.

I don't know much about Wikis xD

i kinda like the idea, but maybe if there was some registration that you had to do. to show that you actaully know what you're talking about. cause there are really a lot of trolls and other noobs that would really screw things up.

Well there would definetly need to be some early experimentation to see if that is absolutely necessary.

well ,theres definitely people who know NOTHING about map making and still post like they do(in MMA). i won't list names (you've mention one of them in other threads). I'm sure they would end up removing quality information and replacing it with their own garbage.

or maybe if not an initial exclusion, then have very tight restrictions with banning them. in other words, if they mess up, permeantly ban them(from tuts) instantly , instead of the long process of many warns.

It would be easier to refine older definitions this way. I like it.

Unlike in the MMA forum, offenses like that would have to be dealt with much more harshly in a wiki. The information they changed would be restored and their access to modifying the wiki would be suspended.

It's a good idea; but such a major coding project would be pushed into v5. (some know the hidden meaning of that).

I think SEN members would have to be map making approved first, some kind of test generator that they can only take once a month to see if they truely know map making, and the questions would have to be difficult too. Then in their sig or information or somewhere it could say like approved map maker or something.

It's a good idea but it most likely won't happen.
Plus, you'll need some help from modders and programmers.

What does modding have to do with a website? You don't need to program your own wiki there is a great deal of free wiki software available.

It sounds like a good idea to me, but I think it should require you to have a certain ammount of posts first,
to prevent people from creating new accounts just to spam the tutorials tongue.gif

Nimwit, the moderators and programmers will submit what they know about SC to the wiki.

You said "modders" not moderators. Those are entirely different things. And moderators and programmers still don't have anything to do with submitting knowledge about StarCraft to a wiki.

I don't think IP will warm up to the idea of having foreign code blocks in his special custom v5. He'll probably just code it like a wiki, but using standard PHP and integrating it with v5.

Might be easier if we just add a Map Edit section into en.wikipedia.org.

Funny.

Foreign code blocks? Moose does nothing?

Also, MediaWiki, the software that runs Wikipedia, is coded in PHP using a MySQL database. If we were to go that route, all that the wiki would need is a skin.

You're welcome, gentlemen smile.gif
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showuser=10414
(I know it still needs a touch here and there, but it works!)

Rex>In MediaWiki, the skins can be customized in user's preferences, there is no "one skin for everyone".
