I think their is nothing really bad that comes out of online poker. Yeah ok people can get addicted and lose their money. Well those people are the people that should be stopped from using their credit card for this stuff. If people pay their taxes every month who is to say they shouldnt be able to have some fun playing poker. Other than that their is nothing bad that comes from online poker.

The government doesn't give a **** that some really dumb people lose all their money on Online Poker. If they did, they would outlaw all forms of gambling. No, the reason they want to make it illegal is because they can't TAX it. So instead of Joe Shmoe going down to the Casino where the government is given a slice of the pie, he stays online in a tax free enviroment. The U.S. government figures it's losing money.

Personally, I think they're greedy dogs. The United States actually asked to be given rake on the poker sites, which is totally unfair, because it's NOT only American players. It's possible that countries of the world could one day take rake from the percentage of money from their country that is played with, but it probably won't happen because the sites are hosted in the middle of no where, and don't give a rats ass what America thinks. I think it's really lame they're having a hissy fit about it, but I don't live in The United States so it doesn't mean **** to me.

I love poker. Can't wait till my birthday, gonna go to the casino and play a bunch of holdem. Online poker ain't bad, I would just rather play real poker since the people online are foolish and call EVERYTHING. They show no self control.

Yeah, like 5 people go all-in first hand. It's fake money, so I understand.

I don't see why it should be illegal, it's the same exact thing aspoker.. =\ Greedy government!

Gambling is illegal in most areas, that's why the Government cares.

But I think no real money is lost in most of these poker sites, and therefore it is not illegal. If you really do bet your own real money online, (you're stupid) then it is definately an issue.

I play poker all the time with friends and family, and I've been to a few of those sites. Its not the same as a real game to me, though, so I never get into them.

"Gambling is illegal in most areas, that's why the Government cares."

You're wrong. There are casinos everywhere. You just have to aquire a license. Although, I guess it may be different for The United States, I seriously doubt it.

No, playing poker with no real money is stupid. 99% of people will treat their chips with no respect and go all in on any hand because there's no pressure, or when they're bored (which is almost immediately, because no one is playing seriously). Poker with no money is incredibly boring.

"people online are foolish and call EVERYTHING. They show no self control."

Start playing people for money then. Problem solved. And if they still call all-in, you'll be making some serious cash (they won't, but that would be a dream scenario).

The problem with fake money games, especially online, is that because rebuy is free, you'll have a higher stack if you just double up with your starting stack.

Poker isn't playable without a real prize (poker fun = prize divided by time). If you want to play a card game without real money just play Jin Rummy or Hearts or something.

No actually I'm right. In the United States, it is illegal in certain states. You do need a license, but you can only get a license in an area that allows gambling. Indian reservations do not count because they bypass all gambling laws made by the government.

Well actually when I say "poker" I don't mean Texas Hold 'Em. I'm talking about Seven Card Stud, Anaconda, etc. Those games can be fun without money. True people bet whatever they want without anything to lose, but there are ways to get around it. When my friends don't want to play for money, we usually make up some consequence for the player who has th elowest amount of chips by a certain time. That makes people take it seriously, and the games can last for hours.

Its only illegal if the site is american and its real money most of the sites that deal in actual money are european based companies who are able to create gaming sites because it is legal in their country.

Like Sweden, the company called "Svenska Spel" which is owned by the state has made an online-poker site, I don't remember what the name is though.
