Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Attempted attack on U.S. Planes
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Vampire on 2006-08-11 at 14:42:35
We all probably already heard about the attempted bombing of the U.S. Airplanes traveling from Europe to USA. They were supposed to be taken down over the Atlantic Ocean by liquid bombs brought aboard by terrorists, there were two substances that after mixing would make a very big explosion easily capable of taking a plane down. Most of the planes that were attempted to take down were from the American Airlines. Because of that attempt passangers can't bring any type of luggage aboard any plane, women are only allowed to take two tampons and women with children are allowed to take some diapers and some milk for the baby. During that day all flights in England were cancaled due to a big threat from the terrorist side. All main suspects were taken to custody on the same day and surely will remain there for a very long time, there was 24 arrests. The english police did a really good job preventing that accident from happening. What do you think about this incident? Express your thoughts and feelings in this topic.

their security sure is better than ours
i think the terrorists will probably find a new way to attack us and that the only way to stop them is by getting rid of every last one of them ohmy.gif

meh america and britain teh PWNZOR, terrorists cant come with ways to attack us,
they should have sealed the deal on 9/11 but they screwed themselves because security is much more tighter, anyways they screened there luggage and found bombs inside the liquid bottles. Meh if they attack theyll die once again

This added almost two hours to the time it took me to get home. sad.gif

I'm really suprised this didn't happen before, anyone with access to the internet can learn to make a bomb from liquids.

Considering what little actual danger there is from terrorists (compare the chance of getting on a plane and being killed in a terrorist attack with, say, getting in your car and being killed by a drunk driver), I think people are getting overly paranoid.

I can understand the call for more security, but reducing my chances of dying on a plane from terrorists from 1 in a billion to 1 in 10 billion is not worth waiting an hour in security every stinking time I fly.

I'm flying to Poland in two weeks and I'm really pissed off because the only things that can be brought aboard a plane now is 2 tampons (if you're a woman) and some diapers and drinks (if you have a baby).

And you need prescriptions for the baby stuff as well, the name that goes with your boarding pass. The airports made people throw away all kinds of bottled things from water bottles to deodorants :/ Anyways, here in Canada they're doing that as well and it will last for at least three days.

I'm pretty sure by 2020 we'll only be able to fly on planes naked. Of course, you have to be hosed down to get any clear objects you have attached to your skin off, and after you pass through an X-Ray machine.

And you can only do THAT after you've been subjected to an extensive full body cavity search.

The security makes it those odds.

No, the security reduces my odds from that given 1 in 1 billion (or if you want to go fetch an exact statistic, some other very small chance), to 1 in 10 billion or so. How many planes have flown from the dawn of flight to 9/11? Lots. How many have been destroyed by terrorists? 4.

Security is in place to keep terrorists on their feet, hell if I knew there were never cops (or very few) around I would speed all the freaking time.

Psychologically, if you know there is greater chance you'll get caught, your plans must be planned out more carefully, thus less attacks as you see it.

My dad flies every week, and he thinks airport security is a total joke, and I agree with him. Whatever further restrictions you add, they'll just come up with something else. It's not that hard to. The way to catch people is to get them before the get on the planes (which is what they did), but airport security should recognize that and just focus on guns, knives, and normal bombs instead of shoes and toothpaste.

If I were a terrorist, I would definitely make the next attempt explosive underwear.

Don't forget - you can always put an explosive device up your ass.

I'm not denying that security makes me safer, I'm saying that after a certain point, the amount of trouble it takes me to get through security isn't worth being safer. I would rather fly with pre-9/11 security levels than fly and have to wait an hour to get through security every time.

Since 9/11 we have made our airports safer but I think things are going a bit too far. You cant bring any water or anything. They are gonna have to supply more now on planes!

This is gay. That's all I can say. You can't even bring a fricken Gameboy or CD player! Thank God I visited my relatives in Australia before this. Those gay Middle-Eastern people. (Not racist, Only the terrorists)

Yes it just says that but my aunt flied from O'Hare in Chicago to yesterday and they didn't let her bring her cell onboard and she was travelling to Poland, I'm flying to Poland in two weeks so I hope things cool down a little so I can at least bring my CD-Player onboard.

Wow, am I ever lucky. This stupid plot was announced around an hour after I left Heathrow on my way back home. If I was even an hour later they would of thrown out all my precious liquids!
