Staredit Network -> Games -> Playstation 2 is really slow -_-

Okay... I don't know why (I think it's cuz I dont play w/ it much) but my PS2 got really slow. Loading screens are slow and some games are so slow they wont' even play.
Is it because of the dust that's collected in the system?
If so, then anybody know where I can refurbish my console? Like, I know Gamestop refurbishes the consoles they BUY, but I don't know if i can ask them to refurbish my system I get to keep...

I'm sure you could go in and ask if they would refurbish it for you.

Sony probably offers some help, but don't expect it to be cheap.

$45 for repair, $75 for refurbish for Sony.

Can't you clean it out urself? My friend did it, but I think i'll mess it up, since my whole life is like one huge bad luck.

there's a special type of cleaning disc that fixes this problem, the way it works is it has a brush on it that cleans the laser as it spins.

Lol T is such a Nintendo fan. But it might not be a problem with the laser lol. Might be some kind of hardware problem lol... Its prob becuase its old. Id say just sell that ps2 and try to work towards a 360 or a Wii. Lol... And I didnt mention ps3 becuase even if you sell your ps2 and all your games your not getting anything close to a ps3 lol.

Why did you say that twice? And why did you use the acronym, "lol", so many times?

Anyways, PS2 is slow. If it's so slow that games won't play, then unscrew the top off and check if the laser is dirty or melted in any way. Just clean it if it's dusty, but if it's melted, bring it in for repair. If the laser is not the problem then you might as well just refurnish it.

*ditto on that it must be the laser tracking it must off broke because the same thing happend to my Ps2 when it falled of the table and I could never play gran turismo 3 again so now my bro is going to get it repaired by his friend. Yea so either your ps2 aint clean or its the laser.

Well I had the problem where when I put a disk in my PS2, it went to the browser screen for 5-10 minutes before game appeared. All I did was flipped it over (screwes are on bottom I think), opened it up and took it all apart, making sure I kept careful track of what went where of course. Then I just dusted everything off and took a very soft tissue and wiped the lens and all that. After I put it back together it ran like new. Before I did that everything loaded slow too. I guess just clean it up nice and good and it should work ok. The most important thing if you decide to do this is to make sure you do NOT forget where things go. bleh.gif

And Gamestop probably would fix it for you, if not, just go to an electronics store or something. They might be able to look at it too. happy.gif
