Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Gays are very intolerant
Report, edit, etc...Posted by luisv on 2006-08-13 at 11:35:32
Well, I hear about tolerating "different" lifestyles but when it comes to gays themselves, they are so hypocritical... Tolerance is one think but ACCEPTANCE is another. I tolerate gays but I do not agree with what they do. Vice versa, people can tolerate a Christian but not agree with what they do. Fine. On TV, we see things like South Park and who knows what else directly laugh at Christianity. Fine, but when you make any "jokes" about gays... it's "discrimination"! I myself am a Christian.. and the intolarance that i have faced by gays is ridiculous. They cry out equality but, when it comes to respecting the beliefs of others they scream descrimination, they slap Christians as "small-minded" and "bigotted". I remember that I was talking to some EX-gays (yes, people who were once homosexual and now are not) and let me tell you that the gay community is so intolerant to this group.. They ex-gays even received death threats.. come on.. the hypocrisy of gays is digusting.

IE this one "hairapy" comercial had these two gay guys talking with the most annoying "gay" voices ever it drives me crazy hearing these voices of gay people on TV. You know the fashion shows...

Um, death threats to ex-gays is not being intolerant? Are you that stupid? Here's an example even you can understand, a while back the Toronto Star wrote on how Christianity should embrace homosexuality and we live in a world of unity, and regardless of what the Bible may or may not say, homosexuality is ok, etc.. etc..
I did not like the article because I disagree with it, but it ended there. In Saskatchewan, a newspaper columnist wrote on how homosexuality is not ok and quoted a few versus from the bible, what happened? The newspaper was sued by a gay saying he was promoting HATE. Dude, that's hypocrisy. Obviously, we shouldn't burn the homos, but I have the right to disagree without being labelled "homophobic", "small-minded", etc. This is about the right to disagree. I don't label people who disagree with Christianity as "small-minded" or "bigotted". Now after this example, if you still don't get the point I am making, you're just really "confused".

QUOTE

So, because I disagree with the gay philosophy suddenly, "I don't like gays". Are you this dumb? So, if you said to me, "I don't think there's a God and I believe the Bible is wrong", would it be acceptable for me to say. "YOU HATE CHRISTIANS! YOU BASHER" No, it would not.

By saying you are being hypocritical yourself, I am stating my point of view on the topic. If you think THEY shouldn't have the right to judge YOU, why should YOU be able to judge them for it?

Death threats does not equal intolerance. In either case, you did not give the scenario thus is invalid as a real argument.

Do you even watch South Park? They've made jokes about the gay population many times. Did you think Mr. Slave was straight? It's just that none of it is particularly insulting because it isn't easy to insult someone for their lifestyle choice. Oh, he has sex with men... haha? It is pretty easy, however, to laugh that people will follow a book of teachings down to the letter that was written in a time completly different from today. It's pure mockery of the human ability to adapt.

Those are two completely different things. One was promoting peace, and loving, the other was promoting hate. I'm sorry my country has a law against hate, but you know, it's sort of a Canadian value, so **** off. If it weren't for that law, people could openly teach that the Jewish community was evil.

Your topic title shouldn't be "Gays are very intolerant" (which is a generalization, at best), it should be "Why are people more offended when gays are insulted, than than when Christians are?". And the answer is because Christians bring it upon themselves by following an absurd (through a non-Christian's eyes) religion, gays just aren't born like us. It's okay to make fun of a kid for purposly wearing funny hats, it's not okay to make fun of the same kid for the gaping birth defect on his face. Unless you think homosexuality is a choice, which most people, including South Park's writers, do not, it's going to be seen as mean and uncalled for.

So, Mr. Stereotypical Christian, I say this to you. Tough ****.

I was thinking this topic would be either very inciseful, showing information and practices oft ignored within the "Gay" movement, or another little batch of homophobia.

I suppose you know where this is going.

Gay, in the context of a group, refers no longer to a preference, it is an identity, a movement, and a stereotype. I do not identify myself with any of these, I don't view myself as being a plastic replica of the next queer. The problem with the movement and the gay population in general is that they are trying to conform to one identity, and thus make the common opinion of them associated with a stereotype. Once you have been labeled under a stereotype, your enemies will view you as one single entity.

Jews under the Nazi Party, blacks under Segregation, and countless majority/minority struggles have proven that when dealing with your enemy, the first thing you do is give them a name. Juden, Colored, Gays, once you are under a single name you cease to be a human being and your oppression is equatible to that of an animal.

I am not Gay, I am an individual person with a differing preference. I hope the "Gays" realize that about themselves too. You don't have to be a Rainbow or a pink Triangle, people.

Now, the biggest flaw in the original poster's argument is this:

There is no such thing as a singular gay "philosophy".

Also, even if there was, does it say they must be tolerant of others? Probably not.
Does the Christian philosophy say to be tolerant of others? Yes! You Lose!

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. How is a death threat NOT being intolerant? It's the apex of intorerance. So if someone said, "You know Billy. I'm going to kill you because you're black", you are saying there is NO intolerance?
A group of ex-gays received DEATH THREATS from gays, what more to the scenario is there? Man, think before you speak.

Stop referring me in the third person, it's stupid. You completely missed the point of me giving this example of a true event. I was pointing out that the gay man by simply SUING the newspaper demonstrated severe intolerance toward people who DISAGREE with his philosophy. My example doesn't "suck", you just missed the point newb.

QUOTE

Of course not ALL gays are like this. But there is a "striking" number of them who ARE hypocritical. Let me guess, I need to back this up with statastics?

You are extremely rude and are a very poor example of what it is to be Canadian. You are looking at things in a very one-sided way. Many Christians do NOT believe that homosexuality is ok, just as you may not believe eating Pork is ok. They are TWO different points of view. Slapping the newspaper from Saskatchewan as HATE material shows YOU are extremely NARROWMINDED because you CANNOT accept points of view that differ from yours. The VERY existance of ex-gays proves that homosexuality is NOT genetic. Can people will horrible defects WILL themselves to be better? No. They cannot because it IS genetic. Stop being brainwashed man. Think about the words that I am saying. Ex-gays PROVE that people are NOT born homosexual. Do NOT insult people who are suffering from horrible GENETIC defects and say that homosexuality is genetic.

When Canada condemns people who have different points of view and people like you label it as "hate" then there is something obviously wrong with Canada now isn't there?

I find it odd that you'd compare gays to blacks and Jews.. Is being gay genetic? No. Like stated before ex-gays disprove this common lie. (yes, it's possible for entire societies to believe in something completely incorrect) Now, I assume you don't conform to the "typical gay" thing but that you are a homosexual. See, I do disagree with what you do but I do NOT hate you. We could probably get along. What I am trying to point out here is that the gay community would label me as "an enemy". Just like you did. This is sad. Why the hate for those who disagree with you? Do I hate those who are non-Christian? No, I do not. Let's stop being so petty please.

I've never heard of an "ex-gay" before you said it. Name one man who was gay for over 5 years, and then just decided not to be anymore. Sure, people experiment, but really, some people are just attracted to males from birth. We're not talking about 14 year old guys and girls who are bisexual because it's the cool thing to do, we're talking about people who've gone through their childhood and have now reached adulthood, but are still homosexual. You may be right, on some far off chance that gays really do choose to be, but to me, and nearly every other non-Christian, the arguments homosexuality is nature are far more compelling.

I think the Newspaper saying gays are sinners and burn in hell, because this one book he read said so, is as bad as Keegstra. Screw freedom of speech if it means making life unnecessarily difficult for an innocent part of the community.

QUOTE(Some stuff about Keegstra I found in a quick search.)
The second wave has brought prosecutions of perpetrators of racial hatred. Jim Keegstra, Donald Andrews and Robert Smith were all convicted of intentionally communicating hatred in violation of s. 319(2) of the Criminal Code: these convictions were upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada. Ernst Zundel was convicted of wilfully spreading false news by publishing "Holocaust denial" literature in violation of s. 181 of the Criminal Code: this provision was later struck down by the Supreme Court of Canada. John Ross Taylor and the Western Guard Party were twice found in contempt of court for refusing to comply with a Human Rights Tribunal order under s. 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act that they cease communicating hate messages by telephone; the Supreme Court of Canada upheld this provision. There have been other cases under both the Criminal Code and the Canadian Human Rights Act.

If you don't know about Keegstra, you've been living under a rock.
