Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> What's wrong with my map?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by NarakuFortunato on 2006-08-19 at 07:27:43
It crashes anytime I play it, and I've narrowed it down to the top half units, though it doesn't seem to be that units are placed out of bounds. It could be a trigger affecting a unit that is deleted so the trigger no longer causes the problem, but I doubt it as I don't have any triggers that I believe can cause a crash like that.

I attached my map in this post, thanks for any help in advance.

Thanks for helping me with the attachment smile.gif and as for the tutorial:

High Index colors (Player color) like 145 and 255. Stick with colors 0-17
(I'm using default and don't know what that means)
Maps with illegal dimensions
(my map is 96x96)
Units placed off the edge of the map (buildings)
(That doesn't appear to be the problem)
Placing sprites off the edge of the map.
(I've placed no sprites)
Many sprites crash the game.
(I've placed no sprites)
Illegal units may crash the game such as an Independant Command Center.
(The only units I have I had there before, and have only been moved since my last test)
2x speed tends to crash the map.
(the speed is on the default)
Showing the portrait for a unit that does not exist. (including mission breifing)
(I didn't do that)
Many units crash the game when disabled.
(I don't know what this means)
Placing a tile index that doesn't exist.
(I don't know what this means)
Having a building with 0 max HP. (Windows Only)
(I didn't do this)
0 build time for units. (And then building them)
(I didn't do this either, nor do I even have the opportunity as it crashes first)

At what stage of loading the map does the game crash and what if any errors are displayed?

Did you protect your map?

It crashes right after the briefing is done, it loads the map and crashes instantaneously and you only get a glimpse of the map, you can't even click.

What is protecting? You can DL my map and see if you can find the error, and if you can, that would be stupendous.

Hmm... what editor(s) did you use to make this map? If you used something like SCXE: Special, it's possible that one of the mineral patches could be off the screen as little as 1 pixel.

Just from looking at the map the only thing out of place is the amount of pylons you have stacked. It's highly unlikely that they can cause a map to crash but they do give an unprofessional look.

What does the player see when he starts and what kind of comp are you using

It's the sunken colony in the right buy zone. I just removed it and the map didn't crash.
