Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Space Terrain I'm Working On
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dark_templar_99 on 2006-08-20 at 19:58:50
So i was just messing around with terrain, and sprites. I decided that I wanted to make a good space multi-level platform. So here is what i have. There is a sniper tower and a big ramp.

Thanks to sprites i was able to hide the biggest problem: low/high ground blockiness.
Unlike Jungle, as you know, it is much harder to end the top of a cliff with either high or low ground. The ramp top ends in high ground but the top of the first high platform is low ground because of the "space" terrain behind it as well as the sniper tower.

So what do you guys think i should do to improve this?

EDIT: I added some basic terrain. This is to show you guys what it looks like without the sprites. You will be quick to notice how when space is around it, the platform has to be low-ground as well as being really blocky. In my opinion, the platform with ground around it looks very great.

I like the multi level platform, on the left. But the other one is blocky with out sprites. Here's a blend from DEAD that could help..

Here

Hm.. ic. The bottem of my platform when the space bordering it can be fixed because that is standard terrain. But as for the top, they both look blocky. Dead used almost the same blend as i did, however there was 1 peice which was different.

I guess i'll be sticking to mainly "ground-bordered" multi-level platforms as opposed to the "space-bordered" multi-level platform.

Very nice indeed smile.gif just the sides need a sprite thing there so that they dont look sharp and blocky, the extended ramp is good biggrin.gif

It's not that great, pretty easy actually... 1/10. Multi-layers are the easiest thing in the world, its the blending and mixing that gets you the points even though it is hard to blend in space... But it helps to experiment.

Sometimes, it is easy. But some people can't do multi layers as well as some people. It's like saying WoodenFire can do cliffs better than me, but I can do experimental terrain easier(If it's not in jungle anyways tongue.gif ).

Nice. You've finally learned to use the index, I presume? Try adding different terrain blocks from different maps using extended terrain.. Then, it could be a mixture of badlands and space or something. Anyway, I like it. Although, it's an average. Why? Because it's basic and obviously you've learned how to use the editor...but you're not quite a professional (I've seen better is what I mean). Anyway, I hope I didn't offend you (I don't see how I could've, but easily you could've just read this and get mad at me)....good job.

You can't use more than one tileset in a map lol. tongue.gif

I like this a lot. I really makes me want to make a spaceship sort of map or something where you can travel throughout space. tongue.gif

LOL, unfortunaty i didn't just learn the index i have been using it for years. But i have been using it incorrectly for a while. I started working on extended jungle terrain because its so simple to get your extended cliffs looking right. But i wanted to try other tilesets. I tried space and it came a long pretty nicely, i think.

I know i can mix tilesets but in this part of my map, there wasnt any other thing that would have worked its a spacestation, and i dont think trees can survive there, there are no rocks in space either. However, i could find some other sprites to use, im sure. Thanks anyway though tirinity

Why learn the index? Place Isom terrain, then copy and paste it tongue.gif

when your units start moving around there will be height issues all over the place
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-08-24 at 19:57:03
FACT: you can't mix tilesets. you can only interchange(between tilesets) doodad sprites.

so stop talking about two tilesets in one map. sprites and tilesets are not the same thing.

about the terrain, not bad, but i'm really not fond of space though.

5/10

This reminds me of my city-scape square terrain in badlands. Let me know if youd like to see some of it.
