I've been playing starcraft for a couple years, and am pretty good at making maps. I decided to use Scmdraft instead of campaign editor, but I realized I do not 'get' what "strings" are and how to use triggers.

Am I sussposed to know every single action and triggers on top of my head and write them in?

Is there a trigger editor like the one in campign editor that i'm missing in there?

Strings are essentially text. Any and all text that is generally non-default takes up a string. Comments, map name, map description, display text, custom unit names, custom switch names, etc.

TrigEdit is completely text based and does require you to enter every trigger "off the top of your head". Here is an FAQ to help you:

I recommend you download SCMDraft2 0.6.0 Prerelease #2:
http://scmdraft.stormcoast-fortress.net/?a...ile=Scmdraft6V2

This file comes with Classic TrigEdit which emulates the Campaign Editor.

The syntax used in the text-based trigedit is different than the order staredit lists the variables, requiring you to actually memorize scmdraft's syntax if you want to use it, even if you do know all the trigger actions and conditions off the top of your head (like I do when it comes to the common ones).

Just use classic trigedit when making most of your triggers, and text-based trigedit for when you want to copy and change certain variables. You don't need to know the syntax for copying purposes, obviously.

If you don't know much about triggers dont bother even thinking about strings at the moment, other than the limit of 1024
All you need to know is that strings are basically the variables used in triggers.(Locations, new unit names, renaming switches, any text etc...)

Maybe you should also try x-tra editor for a good trigger editor, it is exactly like campaign editor
The string limit is not 1024. Strings are not variables. Your comments help no one.

just use strings for coloring your text later on. it doesnt really impact the game besides telling you what you have moddified

trig edit is for copy and pasting you triggers faster. i think its faster to write triggers with classic even if you know the syntax
