Staredit Network -> Website Feedback, Bugs & Discussion -> Inteligent Idea #1

Everyone knows there are always the "extra posts" in a topic. Restatements, off-topic subjects, trolling and spam are always common. My inteligent idea is for topic creators to gain an amount of "X" minerals, preferably 5 or 10 for every topic they lock after the subject is resolved. A simple new rule could be added stating any topic locked before the issue at hand is resolved gets fined "X" amount of minerals. Any topic creator who unlocks the thread gets fined "X" amount of minerals. Some will say moderators know when a topic should be locked and therefore they already use their ability to the site's advantage, but in reality this would improve the site more. This would save moderators time. This would help the flow of attention to go to more important things such as users creating their new maps or posting in more current topics. If someone took the time to listen to this idea and other people's ideas this site would be much better.

Now this is when you make an illogical statement to why this would not work.

That would be a cool idea. Most noobs don't know how to close topics or to read rules though. I don't like the minearl deduction thing for locking topics too early though because moderators would have to work harder and the question might be solved but the topic starter just hadn't posted it.

Thank you for the support. The mineral deduction thing would be for nooblets who post topic and are more compelled to get the "5" minerals then to get advice. The small bounty would give members an incentive to always read their advice and lock their topics when necessary.

This creates more work, actually. This means moderators have to go around to every locked topic to check if it was "solved" or not and give/take minerals accordingly. You could not automate something like this. Unless I don't understand, which is possible because I found the post hard to read.

I think somebody could obviously tell if a topic is spam or not or created for the sole purpose of being locked and then just report the topic.

Im not going to name any Global Moderators specifically Pie_Sniper, but it would do no harm if some of them read topics more frequntly to increase their education. laugh.gif Many more members are more likely to notice a closed topic before a Global Moderator does. Maybe reports could be rewarded 5 minerals as well.

No, not reports. Should be for reports that actually are REAL reports and are responded to.

BTW, I wouldn't count on this idea ever coming in. No ideas do.

You still can't say it would be less work... Hmm... I would make a special report button for this, then you click that, it notifies a moderator, and then they just click "Reward" or "Deduct". That could take just a few seconds. (Glance through topic, click button.) Interesting idea. Could you explain the relevancy of the first two sentences?

You spelt intelligent wrong. Every time you typed it.

Yeah I know, I did that to prove some off-topic remark would be made.

I highly doubt that, but okay.

Anyway I think this idea is a nice theory, but its way more work than needs to be done. You'd either have Moderators go to every single topic and figure out which posts are relevant or you'd design a script to go check every post and figure it out automatically.

The first option is just plain dumb. I don't care how much any one believes the Mods should be more active or look at topics more closely, that is just crap making them have to do more than needed.

The latter option is impossible. As of right now we have a script that adds minerals to your account based on how many words are in the post. More words (and supposedly more relevant) mean more minerals. Aside from creating some sort of intelligent code that would think about each individual post to deduce whether or not its relevant, the current code is the best we can do.

Sure you did, even though it's on topic.

Define "Topic". Look it up in the dictionary. Also known as subject.

It's an unimaginable increase in effort for little gain. An offer of a mineral reward will cause topic starters to become even lock-happy than they are, bringing more enforcement. The reason topics are not insta-locked by their creator is because, unlike some people, most people are not on SEN 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The incentive of being cool enough to lock a topic, albeit your own, more than suffices for this.

This is not a serious suggestion, xMCx is a troll.
