Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> corrupted map

well, heres the problem. whenever i try to create the game it Bnet, it says its unreadable/corrupt. when i try viewing trigs on ube2, it says it can't find the .chk file. i'm thinking that the problem is that i deleted some raw strings. also, it won't open in staredit or SCMD2

now, i'm wondering if its possible to uncorrupt my map. if so, could someone do it for me? or explain how i could fix it myself(someone with no hex editting etc. experience)?

Your best bet is to post the map and have some experts look at it.

The MPQ itself seems to be corrupt (winMPQ can't open it). What programs did you use on this map?

scmd2's string editor to delete strings. i used smcd2 to place units(i was terran, need protoss buildings) and staredit to make trigs.

You know you can place buildings for any race with Xtra editor, right? =P

Why would you delete any raw strings? It's usually a bad idea, it even warns you about it when you click the button.

Mixing editors such as SCM Draft and Staredit/Xtra Editor can be lethal to your map because of the way each handles strings. Deleting raw strings will normally screw a map in SCM Draft anyways. I would just recommend staying away from SCM Draft's string editor because I've done things like that before and it ended up making me manually fix every single string pretty much in the map.

since i was using staredit, Xtra doesn't open for me. i really dunno why. whenever one of them is open, the other refuses to.

well, i wanted to see what would happen ... now i know... disgust.gif

But this wasn't an issue of just the strings getting messed up, the archive itself is corrupted. Possibly a bug in the MPQ code somewhere.

hm, so is there a way to fix it?

Not that I can tell, unless SCMD2 can open it.

nope, scmd2 talks about the .chk mising or something. is there no way to fix it, or is it just incredibly difficult?

I don't know anything about the MPQ format, only the CHK format. Unless you can find an expert on MPQs (of which there are very few), I think you're out of luck...
