Checkers!

Specifacations :

☼1v1 1v1 Tournament
☼96x128 Map Size
☼Badlands Tileset
☼New Restart Feature

Gameplay :

Players move their checkers by casting disruption web on their cannon and then onto an empty spot.  Gameplay will be exactly the same as regular checkers.  I'm making it just a 1v1 checkers match with a restart feature.  The tournament mode will not be added but players can still have their own tournaments on their own.

Triggering :

Needs to be tested Working on Not working on

Check for jumps
Jumps
Multiple Jumps

allow movement
check to see if cannon can be placed

place cannonr
Check to see if kings should be made
End Turn

Screen Shots :

Here's what the board will look like. (The player colors will be different, it's just I don't have triggers to give yet.)

I think you shuld just stick to 1 versus 1. If you did it the other way, you'd force two players to sit through a long game of checkers that they aren't even active in. And if you make it only 1 on 1, players could then remake and have tournaments on their own (supposing they wanted to). It just leaves more options open, I think.

Make it selectable. 1v1 or 1v1 and 1v1 Tourny thatd be fun

That's what I was originally thinking. I'll wait for a few more opinions though.

Actually yeah, I like the selectable idea as well. Giving the players the option is always good. Then they can decide if boredom suits them.

Other that that, I like this idea and I hope it all works out for ya. Have you already developed a system to allow players to do multiple jumps or are you still trying to figure that out?

Ok you should have 8 boards, have then vs computers smile.gif
it would be new cause no one has come up with a computer setting for a board game on sc yet.
And also that way it can be a 1 player map too smile.gif

I've pretty much mapped out all of the things that I need to do triggerwise. The movement and jumping should be fairly easy with large mobile grids.

Computer AI would be hard to achieve.

Make 4 boards for a tourney style game. That's always fun.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Urmom(U) on 2006-08-26 at 16:40:02
Well I'm still debating whether I should make it tourny style or not. It would be boring for the other players to sit around watching. The most that I could do would be 4 players anyways. Also, like Devlin said, you could host tourny's on your own.

I've decided to make it just 1v1 with 2 watcher slots. Time to get triggering. tongue.gif

Perhaps you could realease two versions, a tourney version and a 1v1 version. Tourneys are always fun granted people stay.

I think since there will only be 2 players in the game I'm just going to use disruption web and corsairs instead of bunkers sort of like in FritFrat's Stratego map.

Anyone have some checkers sounds? Like checkers being placed etc.?

Added a screenshot and a new feature.

3 boards would be the best
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-08-27 at 02:08:06
well, you could still have 2boards and 4 players without boredom. just have a first round and then winners final and losers final at the same time.

or have a round robin system. or have both w00t.gif ?

I Likey how you mapped out the board and the minimap is cool. Its great!

Restart feature is really neat too, incase something messes up like a bunker/unit.

Yea I changed the bunker idea to cannons and a corsair. The cannons look a lot more like checker pieces and the movement will be easier. I'll edit the first post. I like the minimap too. smile.gif

I've nearly gotten the jump check to see if there are any required jumps done. Just need to work out the bugs. Should I post an unprotected version along with a protected version for those who want to see how I did everything?

First post edited.

I have to admit using photon cannons as checker pieces is quite a good idea rather then normal units.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mightybass101 on 2006-08-27 at 13:55:08
but how would you do mulitiple jumps?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Urmom(U) on 2006-08-27 at 13:59:06
I have it so that you cast a disruption field on the cannon (or turret for kings) and then datadiscs show up in the areas where you can move and psi emmiters pop up in the areas you can jump. For multiple jumps I'll probably just re-do the jump process and create another psi emmitter where they can jump again. Multiple jumps are mandatory right?

biggrin.gif I have always liked Checkers. I usually win on the board game. Hope you make it realistic. If you need a tester PM me. And about the 1vs1 tourny. You should make seperate maps, like 1vs1 and another one thats tourny. In the tourny one you can make it for four players.

Make a "super" version or something to spice it up.

Interesting on how you're doing your triggers though. And yes, multiple jumps are needed!

Oops, I forgot to update the trigger thing I added to the first post. Well I updated it now. So should I post a trigger version and a playable version? Just for those who want to learn how I did something.

I'm asking myself why i never made a checkers map. should be easy, but gl anyway.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Urmom(U) on 2006-08-27 at 21:43:28
It's harder than it seems because of all rules you have to take into consideration but it's still fairly easy and I'm making good progress.
