Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> SCMDraft 2/Trigedit String Messing
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2006-09-02 at 01:21:40
I'd love to start using trigedit from now on, except that when I used it for Rush and a few other maps it ended up messing with my strings. I had to literally "quarantine" strings because once one got messed, if I went to change it, it would do something to the others (probably having something to do with index values getting moved around or something).

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what's up with this. String recycling?

1. Use SCMDraft2 for your entire map. Never use any other editor.
2. You may use SCXE to edit/make your Mission Briefing but you must not touch anything else.
3. If you must use any other editor for any aspect of the map other than Mission Briefings, use ube3's unrecycle function (make sure to backup first) before attempting to edit the map with an editor other than SCMDraft2.
4. Do not use SCMDraft2 to edit the Mission Briefing.

Ok. Well it's good to know I can expect SCMD's trigedit to make my map it's biatch before I use it.tongue.gif

Is using SCXE and then switching permanently to SCMD ok though?

Yes.

Now I assume you mean only non-terrain/units/doodads when switching, right? I've had no problems working with that aspect of my maps in SCMD before and switching between SCXE and Starforge (especially Starforge: Can't live without brushes).

Curse this string recycling. It's just as bad as Heim's clever idea to auto-remove doodad data with Starforge.

Well, even if you don't touch triggers, if you have done things with SCMD2, such as change names of certain unused units (such as Cave-In), then once you open the map in SCXE and save it those names will be reset to the default. It's possible this might cause some other problems as well, and there are probably other problems that are similar to that.

And, of course, goliath and tank damage is reset to default happy.gif

Probably less significant than other issues, but it's still one..

SCMD2 tends to dislike empty strings and likes to fill those in with others. If you want blank trigger comments or something, I'd use "No Comment" for all of them.

Yea, I've found that too. Personally, I just use " ", a blank space. Gives the same effect as an empty string.
