I was wondering today that I noticed that alot of SEN newbies (or just noobs in general edmund duke) but what about the abilitie to start private topics. A person has the option of doing that buy first adding the names of users who are alowed to post in the topic and you can also make it double private by not letting other users see it except the listed ones mentioned above. They can be used in any thread as long as the person is regular and above but the person who starts the private topics can list anyone of and title into it also.

Does it already exist it or not? But does that seem like a good idea.

It does not exist. And there's a squelch button for a reason.

They're public forums. They have as much right to read and post as you do.

And there are PMs if you don't want things to be public. Seems like we've got plenty of privacy stuff.

Having private topics is going to be just like bringing back the High Templar Forum. Only selected "special" individuals can view certain topics; thus brings us back to the elitism issue we've discussed some time ago

No, never.

Bad idea. Then people will hang out only in their small circle of friends. And open forum activity will go down.

What about the [whisper] bbcode? Does it even exist in our forum?

Did I say I was going to use it? No. Don't make assumptions, please.

Well, it seems like an OK idea, in my opinion. It isn't as 'elitism' as High Templar forum because it isn't the administration deciding who can post or not, it's the creator of the topic. I wouldn't call it elitism; I would call it an easier method to talk to more then one person at a time and exclude people we think spam a lot from our conversations.

I won't fight hard for this one, though, because it is a lot of coding work for a not-so-large gain.

What does elitism have to do with this. I said that regulars and above can hold these topics but can invite as many people as they want of all ranks in.
I understand the part about viewing as then thats like saying whats the point of the topic but if newbies and noobs abuse this feature by creating useless private topics then that would kill the intentional use of it.
