It's time again for contest results, or as I like to call it... the good, the bad, and the ugly. Let's begin.
As a reminder,
August's Theme was
Robots.
Let's get that judging criteria out there again:
QUOTE
Theme (10) - Obviously this one is important. If the map isn't even remotely related to the theme, it won't score very well. A map scoring 0 on this won't be graded further, regardless of how well it fits. Something that looks premade and just custom fit with a few text messages won't score very well.
Fun (25) - Important for me as I'm playing the map. Am I running around having a good time, or watching a unit talk to itself in a movie? Are there huge bugs that prevent play of the maps? If I ever go to this map again, is it going to be to play it with friends or to delete the scm/scx? This is usually it the deciding factor in contest entries.
Aesthetics and Professionalism (15) - Did you use one type of terrain tile and no text color? Are there mispellings distracting me at every turn with some poorly made triggers? Hopefully you can create something that looks and feels decent. I'm not asking for extensive extended terrain or hundreds of sprites, a map that seems well-made should score well. On the subject of professionalism, please PLAYTEST your maps before submission. Nothing looks dumber than a map that obviously hasn't been tested.

Control a robot that can vaporize things, cool.
FUN: 20/25
Grab your Science Vessel and EMP things to make things go POOF. It's fun, it's awesome, it's hilarious.
PROFESSIONALISM: 14/15
A very well made map, though I didn't know what some things were for. The second effects really add to the comedy.
Could've used a bit more development or variation.

Kyuubi.THEME: 10/10
Mech casters? Traditionally spell casting is for humans, not robots, but I'll let this slide.
FUN: 14/25
Mechs casting spells at each other, it's pretty fun. Needs better balance though. The map had a lot of unused potential. It seemed similar at PoweRena, a previous winner, but just didn't cut it.
PROFESSIONALISM: 11/15
Overall the map was very well made. The scourge spell is too powerful though, those do 11 per hit. Severe damage if not an instant kill for anyone directly next to the caster. There could have been a lot more spells and improvements to them (different costs, etc).

Second Place! 400 mineralsRobot_Defense.bak.scx by
7-7THEME: 10/10
Robots defending something, whatever.
FUN: 17/25
About as fun as a defense map can be. The "robot malfunctions" make for a nice twist, though.
PROFESSIONALISM: 7/15
The prices listed didn't correspond to the units. I also got 200 minerals when playing with 2 people, and 600 with 6. Nice triggering. Also, when units reached the base from the middle path, we didn't lose. The civilian space is definitely not designed for six players. Half the chat in the game was telling people to move.

Construct robots and have them fight, cool.
FUN: 10/25
This map got tedious and boring. The building system is original, but it just gets annoying after awhile. Also, it took quite a while for me to figure out how to play. This map SERIOUSLY needs some anti-camp, given the long build times.
PROFESSIONALISM: 12/15
No major bugs that I saw, just annoying to play and hard to understand at first.

32/50Robo Battles!.scx by Falkoner
THEME: 10/10
Robot battles, good enough.
FUN: 13/25
Clever briefing.
It had quite a few bugs which took away from gameplay. Missiles seriously need a time limit. Also, WTF is "mail" for?
PROFESSIONALISM: 8/15
Quite a few bugs and imbalances. First off, fix your triggers. The score triggers are based on force, meaning the second players in each force only get money in the rare chance the first one's trigger doesn't run or has run already. Also, my Defiler was able to kill the enemy team's Civilian. Bombs and missiles also bug up, it claims I can't own a second bomb... when I don't own any.

Construct robots and have them fight, cool.
FUN: 12/25
Needs better balance. Otherwise this is a pretty mundane micro arena type map.
PROFESSIONALISM: 7/15
No real bugs, just needs balance adjustments. Lurkers can't burrow, no speed or mines for Vultures. At the end, I just lost. No text or anything? I was rather disappointed in the "storyline", which didn't exist once the game started.

THEME: 10/10
Robots battling it out, works for me.
FUN: 10/25
A good idea, but not developed to it's potential. It gets pretty boring, a micro showdown between ground metal terran.
PROFESSIONALISM: 8/15
Obviously not fully playtested. How do you create a builder class and not give him Supply Depots to build?

THEME: 10/10
Hold up the Worm robot. Works for me.
FUN: 6/25
The map offered almost no challenge. You have to stop a Reaver from traveling 5000 miles on a narrow path with faster units, big deal. Overall the map gets boring and tiring.
PROFESSIONALISM: 11/15
I liked the minimap, and various other bits of style. The map was good until the ending, where you have to fight Wormbot's children. This takes forever as they never advaned on you and you can't go into their area. Basically it's your respawning army of hydras in a very time consuming battle.

24/50Robots_v1.1.scx by DEAD
THEME: 10/10
It has robots.
FUN: 10/25
The map is just a bunch of preplaced goliaths in a small space that fight. I won without clicking, so it gets a 10. It was also freaken hilarious.
PROFESSIONALISM: 3/15
The map is just a bunch of preplaced goliaths in a small space that fight. I won without clicking, so I can tell this wasn't a serious entry. It gets a bonus because of the small filesize.

A briefing with robots and a few units named like robots, whatever.
FUN: 4/25
I watched the white team obliterate the yellow team. I also got the fun of dropping lagging players.
PROFESSIONALISM: 2/15
Humanoid machine... Mobile plasma cannon... Tassadar? Very robotic! Most of the buildings weren't even renamed.
The triggering in this map is terrible, and there is an immense amount of bugs. This map had potential, but the time and testing weren't put in.

A big improvement from the last contest. There were ten maps this time, which is a good turnout. They might be attached to this post at some point. I'll get up links to the individual top placers and distribute minerals soon. The one for September won't be at the end of the month this time, so stick around.
