1/10
• Top grass formations are decent • Bottom is too jagged and looks man-made which grass can't be unless there is a fence or magic? • What is with all of the trees covering blockiness! Use blends instead of doodads. • Your ISOM looks lacking in structure and detail • Lack of doodads. • No buildings or people, is this even going to be used in a map? • The image quality kind of blurrs and makes it seem less blocky than it really is? I wish SC was naturally like that in-game so we wouldn't have to worry about blockiness as much! Wow. • I don't absolutely hate this, you at least put forth some effort and I am sure your other attempts will be better.
Overall, it doesn't blind the eyes as much as other pieces have.

2/10 nothing new and it's easy =o

Nice try for a beginner but the grass is too blocky and uneven... Also, for the love of god, take away the sprites. People are obsessed with using sprites on all the blocky parts... 2/10 for "beginnerness." Yah...

The only one worth noting is top left, it gives the impression of a slope. Just remove the sprites and spice it up.

Its ok, the one on the left is kinda...idk the word lol.
4/10

Why do I see like 70% of all the threads made say "1st try at terrain"? Just post your pieces and add some info. People won't give you better rating if it's your "1st" try.
I say it looks rather odd, sprites totally ruin it being called terrain. 2/10

Y? how can i fix it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-09-13 at 16:59:07
Don't add sprites? lol
Terrain is combinations of tiles that we try to blend so they look good/natural. Sprites are not part of the terrain so if you want us to rate your terrain, don't add sprites to it.
Doodads are another thing.

so i can do the same thing (if i am able to make it look natural) w/ doodles?

One thing that i suggest you do that really helped me, is place small blurps of grass with the isom brush, then try and find each tile in the index. This familiarizes you with the grass tiles and helps you make custom grass look more natural. Also, certain parts of that you could have just made a grass blurp and copied the bottom half and only had to do the other half(a smart way to cut time down on these kinds of projects ).
Also, check out good work by other people on this particular project. This can give you ideas of how to make yours look good.
Here is an example:
Don't mind the rest of the pic, but look at how I ended the grass on the left and right. I always think of it as ending the grass in a point, and that point has to meet the edge of another surface in this case the cliff beggining.
Example: Yes-
No-
I hope I didn't confuse you more. Good luck with your next one.

Doodads are practically the same as terrain. As you can find all doodats in the tile index. Some doodads have a sprite attached to it.

Top is good it has that "you know it is" blend for it but the bottom needs work.
Regardless to say 4.5/10

You added the sprites to cover the blockiness. Jungle cannot BLEND with cliffs. That's why there is blockiness.
So...
