SCMDraft actually is in the making of making a SCMDraft Mac. Unfortunately, it will probably take a while and there hasnt been many progress updates...

Starforge is built on the Win32 API in C++ and Visual Basic.

No. Heimdal really doesn't work on it anymore, let alone taking the time to learn the Mac API, getting a mac comiler, and porting all his code. Would take a very long time.

Actually most of the C++ code could be easily ported. But you're right about the UI, I don't have any means nor time to develop one for the mac. Sorry =\

OFF-TOPIC:

How does your sig do that???!?!?

Hey, wouldnt it be possible to make a mac editor with your tutorial you wrote Heimdal called 'make your own map editor' a long time ago?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Heimdal on 2006-09-19 at 20:12:42
No, because that relies on linking to starforge.dll, which obviously wasn't compiled for mac.

The sig is nothing special, it's just a link to a dynamic image so when your browser requests it, it takes the information from the request and puts it in the image. Therefore everyone just sees information about their own computer.

The DLL was compiled for Windows. The Tutorial simply tells you all these functions and how to utilize them.

He could probably switch stuff around, editing though, if he knows how tongue.gif

Maybe Heim could port the DLL to mac (not thaat hard), which would make Min's job easier (you said you were making an editor right? how about turning it into a frontend).

I would but I still need a mac compiler [that runs on windows] and someone to test on mac.

Otherwise im sticking to Windows.

I currently switched a lot more of my code from C++ to C#. Because of this I'd probably port my code to Mono .Net which I believe would be easy.

That depends. What API does he use to read MPQ's?
If it's his custom one that should be easy.
If it is SFMPQAPI, source code aint out there and no Mac version released(I think???).
If it is Stormlib, then it wont be that hard.

It was stormlib, so porting that isn't a problem.

I'm 90% sure Mono doesn't support windows forms, so you're out of luck in the UI department.

EDIT: After checking the Mono site, it looks like windows forms is kinda-available, although still under development. So this might be an option. However, even if I wanted to go through with this (which I'm not sure I am), the code is on my desktop at home, which I won't have access to until mid-december.

Heim, you're such a tease! I think the sad part is that if you were to personally start porting StarForge to Mac, SI would immediately resume production on SCM Draft Mac. Always a competition...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IanMM on 2006-09-21 at 16:38:45
Well then I'll be the competition! I'm acualy getting pretty far on this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Cole on 2006-09-21 at 19:34:53
SI isn't the one working on the Mac version. That is DW. Both who have busy lives.

I checked out the Mono site to. Once I get my base GUI down i'll be good.

Before I start on a mac version I want to get all my writing functions fixed. Theres a small error somewhere in writing out CHK code. My guess is a byte on a section name\size.

I'm also looking at several different interfaces, some similar to how Scmdraft 2\Starforge work, others much different.

I'll also have to look into switching to the Stormlib API.

I know that, but if you look at it historically, SI has always managed to come out of a long absense once Heimdal becomes active again. So in this case I was making a joke about how SI and DW both will come back now that StarForge is being ported to Mac.

Er, it is? Like I said before, the absolute earliest this could start is mid-december, and then I'll be starting my last semester of school soon after that. Don't hold your breath.
