yet another corrupted map from me pinch.gif i'm thinking its an MPQ error cause i'm getting the same error message as last time.

the map was in perfect working order as of last night. the computer was left on and when i checked my map this morning, i got a corrupted map problem. I'm really not sure if its a mapping problem or a general computer problem but can someone confirm whats wrong and fix it, or otherwise recommend me to someone who can?

Whatever program you're using for this map seems to have overwritten the last part of the MPQ with TONS of hex#DF, and possibly some other crap.

err, uberation2? i jsut looked at the trigger section for a trigger count. anyhow, i use staredit for 98%. like i said, i use ube2 for a trigger count and i may have used either SCMD2 or Xtra to place buildings for other races.

After many attempts to extract the chk, the only successful attempt showed it to be mostly corrupt.

What program was last used to save the map right before the corruption?

What was the last thing you saved it with?

The archive header seems ok. Although the block table is corrupted. Hash table seems ok(although it's encrypted so I can't really tell).

Either the Block Table offset is wrong or the Block Table is corrupt.

99% percent sure it was staredit. i may have accidentall clicked the wrong button and saved it in uberation though.

If you open up the same map with 2 different programs, you're bound to accidentally save and screw stuff up.

I doubt it. If there was a flaw in staredit then we'd notice cuz it'd be everywhere.

My guess is Uberation and there is a flaw in whatever it uses to write MPQ's and the settings you used when you saved it.

okay, guarenteed did not save in uberation. i wasn't sure if the exit button saved or not(double checking, it doesn't). i'm not sure if this is a MM problem at all, i'm thinking its my comp. cause i've been getting error messages(the same ones you get from protection) when i try to open a map the first time, but the second time, it works fine. also, i'm experiencing this same error with maps that i haven't touched for weeks/months. so, the issue now isn't the source of the problem, but whether or not it can be fixed.

The moral of this story?

Backup your maps early and often pinch.gif

who backs up a test map...?

and i really didn't think simply opening up a map in a few programs would lead to a delayed corruption.

so, can anyone uncorrupt this map? or at least extract the .trg(?) section?

2000 minerals for anyone who uncorrupts the whole map, and 800 for an uncorrupt .trg section

Unless you can find an expert on MPQs (of which there are very few), I think you're out of luck...

I seriously doubt that anybody here at SeN can decode the map in its SCX format, and only a handful actually knows how to hex edit a map's CHK.

well, i'm not knowledgable with .chks, but as long as the .trg section isn't majorly corrupted, its still feasible to extract it and fix some of the currptions isn't it?

Moral of the story, use an editor that does it automatically?

Uh, not necessarily. The ".trg" section as you call it (really the TRIG section) is inside the CHK, and the CHK is inside the MPQ. It's the MPQ that is corrupted, so we can't get to the CHK, much less the TRIG section.

You can't.

My advice: Don't use StarForge, Uberation, ProEdit's Compression, SCMDraft1, or Macs any time in the near future.

DO use: StarEdit.

EDIT: If the MPQ is corrupted... the problem can be traced back to ShadowFlare's MPQ plugins. To my knowledge.. every StarCraft program ever uses it. Maybe Legacy somehow freaked it up with his Uberation.

Well, I had corrupted message, and It was bekuz of sound files, what I do is..

When my sound files are on SCXE and I open it in StarForge and Save it on Starforge, a corruption problem happens.

Open the map in SCXE Save it, open it in Starforge, Save it, open it back in SCXE,

^_^

==========

Fit it to your problem like instead of SCXE could be scm or something I ono!! : (

i'm sorry, but that is so far off the mark i don't know where to begin. actually ... i do:

1) i don't have sounds files

2) the source of the problem has already been found
