Gomoku

We all know the simple game of Tic-Tac-Toe. There are different versions, like the 3x3 version, or the bigger "arena" version, where you need to get 5 signs in a line.

Specifications

-Players
•2

-Map tileset
•Jungle

-Map size
•64x64

Features

-Player Interface
First, the host chooses the amount of rounds that will be played. The amount can only be an odd number (So there will never be a tie). Then, he starts the game. You have a 19x19 field of 2x2 cells, and a Corsair. Cast Disruption Web on a cell to create your unit in that cell.

The first person to get 5 of his units in a line wins the round. If all cells are filled and there is no winner, the round restarts. The person who won the most rounds by the end of the game wins.

-What's new in your map that others have not done before?
•Easy to play Tic-Tac-Toe.

I'm making this map because the terrainer for The Thing: Deadly Trust is not found yet. I gotto kill some time wink.gif

how original jammed rolleyes.gif

a 3x3 TTT is sexy, but 15x15 is just plain orgasmic ohmy.gif

you should make it a four-player map, where 2P result in a 1v1, 3P results in a round robin, and 4P results in a double elimination tournament.

I decided to make it a 1v1 because arranging a tournament of 4 players can be quite hard because of one thing: if only 3 people join, or one get dropped in the game ?

I decided to evade all those problems and made it a 1v1.

The most interesting part is detection of a 5 units in a line... I've done a lot of experiments with SCI grids to figure out some things...

Hmm...this looks awesome. People have been making old board games. Its like a fad... happy.gif

Why not call it Tic-Tac-Toe EXTREME! smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-09-20 at 14:55:22
I'm thinking about how to call it. The name shouldn't be too "PWNAGE", like Tic-Tac-Toe 3000 Mega plus", but it must be "Tic-Tac-Toe [something]", because just "Tic-Tac-Toe" is boring. blink.gif

Use disruption web with a corsair instead of a dropship.

Whoa ! That's a good idea smile.gif

I didn't use a defiler because there can be situations when he can be blocked by units, but this totally solves the problem, and makes it easy to use.

Thanks a lot smile.gif

Np, i just know how slow dropships move and this solved the problem.

Now I'm starting the fun part... the detection of 5 units in a line... My SCI grid experiments should come in handy...

If you need help with it I can show you the method that I'm using in my checkers map to detect jumps.

I'll handle it. But thanks anyway. smile.gif

I will ask you about it when I'm finished because I'm interested tongue.gif

Is it ok if i can be a tester? biggrin.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-09-20 at 15:53:57
I have only one tester - DEAD. And I don't need more. (Logically, It's a 1v1 map).

Sorry.

Make the board 19x19 and you can change the name to what it really is.

I fixed it already. smile.gif The problem was that the grid bugs when it meets the border of the arena.

Now, I've finished the hardest part - detection of 5 units in a line. It detects 5 units in a vertical line. Now I just need to copy the triggers.

Will be great if testing begins tomorrow.

Yes, made by yours truly. http://www.staredit.net/index.php?download=192

Also, this one. http://www.staredit.net/index.php?download=2772

But, there's an even better one called 5Mok, which is exactly like the map you're making.

Sounds easy to make and not all that fun when you get to play it. It's good that you made it so im having trouble visuallizing this entirely but 15x15 arena with 2x2 cells? and if its exactly like normal tic tac toe it's not going to be fun because tic tac toe is too predictable.

Predictable ?! A 3x3 is predictable, not 15x15 tongue.gif

Since you say that that one is the best of those 3...

My map will be more easy to use and to understand. I didn't like the 3x3 cells in taht one, and that marine.

Oh well, it all comes to that I'm making it because I am bored tongue.gif
