Staredit Network -> Website Feedback, Bugs & Discussion -> My Account Was Hacked
Report, edit, etc...Posted by xMCx on 2006-09-21 at 22:10:29
Today my account was seriously hacked. I use two computers. On one, the internet dl file was uninstalled. On the other, the IP adress was turned into something similar to "undefined". I am not making this up, and I ask the admistration to remove my IP address and accounts so that it might not happen again. I have my suspicions on who it was, but that will only lead to me getting banned, etc.

Not surprising. Big StarCraft communities (SeN) and hated/powerful/important members seems to be victims from a hacking spree lately.

The best thing to do is to change your IP address/ISP, install a powerful firewall, and to have faith that it won't happen again.

Might I suggest changing your password?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by xMCx on 2006-09-21 at 22:31:58
Password changed. Moose can please look into it. Also, well you please have a meeting with me online via B.net tomorow and I will tell you who I think it was. It was hacked "around" 6.00 p.m.

It doesn't appear that anybody's been using your account but you as far as I can tell. I'll keep an eye on you, and I gave IP a link to this topic... maybe he can figure something out.

May we have a meeting past 12:00 a.m. tonight or tomorrow afternoon?

Since I have to get up at 6 AM tomorrow... no. tongue.gif Maybe tomorrow, though I don't know how late I'll be on.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by xMCx on 2006-09-21 at 22:36:38
It was a 5 digit password so maybe you could make a news post for longer passwords? I am not making this up to get away for denouncing Minigame. This happened after that.

What proof do you have that your SEN account was hacked? "the internet dl file was uninstalled" doesn't seem to have anything to do with SEN. tongue.gif

It happened on two computers both used on the same account on SEN. I don't use any other web pages. What else could it be? I know nothing about hacking so does it take an IP Address to hack one's account. And who out of the Admin./Staff is able/has seen IP addresses and might have saved a log of them?

<brb 15 min from this post.

Nobody should be able to hack your computer with just your IP... unless you have terrible security. Check for trojans and stuff. Otherwise, Moose needs sleep.

One is a Windows 98, the other is an Windows XP. I'll run the virus checker and check the topic after it is done. It might take a long time, and I might have to reply tomorrow.

Install a firewall...
Install the OS's security updates...
Use firefox (happy.gif)...

Unless you know someone was in your sen account, I doubt somebody was. Using more than 5 characters for a password is nothing but expected these days.

2 Computers

Windows 98--> For awhile it bugged and wouldn't allow me to open IE. Then, it said some file was corrupted. Now, it has an error message that is permanent. It says IExplore caused an invalid page fault in module -----.dl @ -----. Then it lists 4 registers. (Is the I part abnormal in Iexplore?)

Windows XP--> Bugged and said I had invalid IP adress. Now, it doesn't work and says an admin. of the computer locked the internet explorer.

I have recent to believe it might be a staff member. Who has seen/is capable of seeing IP addresses. And, couldn't an old staff member saved a log of them?

Also, could you look into if a Global Mod./Other looked into my account to see if I had a PM Minigame accused me of not having? I know this might sound downright stupid, but I think it is a staff member. More evidence to tell in a b.net meeting hopefully. If someone logs into your SEN account can they go into your computer?

I have what I believe is an almost gurantee it was a staff member! Please meet with me online tomorrow afternoon.

Wait, wait, don't tell me... *makes prophet gesture*

I hacked your account to fiddle with evidence about Mp) so that clan Mp will die and (U) will magically rise from the ashes to rule the world![/sarcasm]

Honestly, your accusations are totally baseless; especially since you haven't even logged in since 17th September 2006 - 04:35 PM (local board time).

Someone would have needed to actually take over your computer via a trojan or other virus do accomplish such a seamless "hack".

Update: Deleted 17 Data Miners, but nothing else found on Windows 98.

I'm going to post info. about who I think it was and why late tonight.

Today is September 21, 2006. I have made several posts today and the past few days. Have you changed my log or something? Also, are you sure it wasn't the other Windows XP computer that last logged in 17th of September..

ok would you mine then deleting every post that the hacker did so we know what damage has he done?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by xMCx on 2006-09-21 at 23:39:13
He did not post anything yet, as I already said.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-09-21 at 23:45:06
So wait, what does this have to do with SEN then? How do you know someone hacked your SEN account when the "hacker" hasn't done anything with your account? The password obviously hasn't changed or anything. And getting on your SEN name would do absolutely nothing to either of your computers.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by xMCx on 2006-09-21 at 23:55:36
Are you sure the SEN name wouldn't do anything to my computer? If so, he must of not hacked my account. Then as I thought, it must be my IP Addresses the hacker had.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-09-21 at 23:57:27
All a hacker can do when getting your account is post on your name. If you were a moderator or admin, he could also do damage to SEN and SEN alone.

This person must have either gotten your IP (which really wouldn't do anything) or you downloaded a trojan.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by xMCx on 2006-09-21 at 23:59:19
I have not used any other sites besides SEN. Moose and possibly IP said my account could be hacked if I had crappy security just by a hacker having an IP Adress.

Logging in = clicking the "Log In" button, not re-visiting SEN and retaining being logged in via cookies.

I haven't logged in for months.

So how does this explain my accusations are totally baseless?

Note: I now have a new startup page saying that my computer will take a few extra minutes to load files.

Because if someone hacked your account, they would have had to log in to it. If some one did hack into it, they got it on the 17th seeing as how that's the last time that account logged in.

And as for missing posts, have you gone back to check how many of your actual posts couynt toward your post count? If you have 1 post in this forum and about 24532423455 in Miscellaneous, Clan Oo, and Clan Mp, only that one post made here will count.
