I only got the RTS games that were popular and was heard of. Sorry if I missed anything in particular. As for me I think its Starcraft, lol because out of the games the only game I played was Starcraft. (although I did play the prequel to Lord of the rings: The battle for middle earth II)

Starcraft is my favorite all-time RTS game. Dune and Dune 3 were tremendously popular in their time.

You should have generalized them into franchises rather than games. Command and Conquer, StarCraft, Age of Empires, Warcraft, etc. instead of C&C Generals, StarCraft Brood War, Age of Empires and Warcraft III...

WCII pwned (even though it wasn't placed on the list). SC had a hell of a lot better storyline though, and obviously UMS MM.

You might want to try Command & Conquers First Decade if you haven't bought it yet.
Also, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is in development with a scheduled demo due out in January.

I know all about that, but PC Gamer warned me that the collection was a buggy mess so I haven't bought it yet.
C&C 3 looks pretty good so far. It's good to see that the C&C team is still capable of producing top-end games, even though they're working for EA.

I have it; no bugs so far. (Except for, of course, net play on the earlier games, but you couldn't do that now with the originals. 
) I just bought it for convinence and throughness; I own all the games by themselves with the exception of Renegade.

Starcraft and Warcraft have the most versatile gameplay (that I know of) through UMS, melee is always fun too, Starcraft>Warcraft so therefore I choose Starcraft.

SeN is actually mostly made of UMS mappers where the majority probably have less interest in Melee, while the poll is about the best RTS gameplay.
If you take a look at SC.ORG's strategy database, there are far less UMS strategies than Melee strategies, and half of them are ridiculed and criticized by the Melee raters.

Dune was different than other RTS games because each unit had a significant part on the tech tree. (Meaning each unit higher on the tech. tree built on the lower one) In other games, lower tech units can hold there own if used properly.

maybe I should've taken out starcraft as an option -_-
