This is my first review, and I've decided to review Voyager7456(MM)'s mod Incursion.
Download HereFor this review and all of my mod reviews, I'll be using the Summer Modding Contest's judging scale, developed(?) by Corbo(MM) and Killer_Kow(MM), as it seems quite comprehensive and fair. Here's the breakdown:
QUOTE
Judging Criteria
Complexity
Was your mod easy to create? was It hard? It will be evaluated by the judges
This will be worth: 15 Points
Content
What exactly did you do? Did you just edit a few units? Was It a TC? if you just modded a zergling you will be judged with that zergling. oh.. just imagine...
This will be worth: 20 Points
Glitchness
How well does your mod run? Does it have Glitches?
This will be worth: 10 points
Originality
Is your mod a copy of another mod? This will be highly evaluated.
This will be worth: 30 points
Fun
Is Your mod fun? boring? another important thing highly evaluated.
This will be worth: 25 points
Now let's get down to business.
COMPLEXITY: 15/15
Quite sophisticated. Extensive editing of .got templates, tech trees, iscripts, and dats gives this a high score in the complexity department.
CONTENT: 17/20
Every tech tree is vastly different--this could rightly be called a TC (Total conversion, for those unfamiliar with modding lingo,) although a lack of new graphics keeps it from a perfect score.
GLITCHINESS: 4/10
Well, it doesn't crash the game, that's all I can say for it. Your Bleeder units had better be still when they morph into level 4 or 5, or you'll have just wasted a vast amount of mins. Hydralisks have this annoying tendency to get stuck in place and not do anything after an attack. Also, you can't build Supply Pools on creep, even though they generate it, and it doesn't disappear so well...better not let your Supply Pools get destroyed. A couple hotkey problems are also present.
ORIGINALITY: 26/30
Very original. We can see Voy's style of having fewer units than normal SC, but that's not a major flaw, and certainly doesn't affect this category (I can't fault a guy for having a signature style.) The Bleeders are very unique, as is the use of Larva and abilities--perhaps a shade fewer "attack" abilities would have been nice.
FUN: 15/25
Very fun for a few rounds, when it starts to get a bit boring. The Bleeders also have unparalleled rush ability (in fact, they're supposed to,) making them either extremely powerful or extremely poor in a two- or three-player game. Everything also takes a while to build--or at least it seems that way when it all builds at one structure! Overall, though, you can have quite a bit of fun with this mod...especially if you can round up a party to play eight-person with.
TOTAL: 77/100
Certainly not a bad mod by any means, and quite fun for a while. Then the novelty wears off, and you end up getting bored in the middle.
WOULD I RECOMMEND IT? Yes, certainly.
WOULD I MAKE IT THE ONE MOD I'D PLAY FOREVER? Nooo. Sorry, Voy.
There are many better mods out there, but there are many more worse ones. Give Incursion a try--it's worth it.
