MAP DESCRIPTION
Three adventurers find an ancient cave system that supposedly hides an ancient crystal with immense power. Inside the caves are various puzzles that test the adventurers mentally and physically as they attempt to recover the artifact.

THE PUZZLES

There are eight puzzles on the map that test the players' mental and physical abilities, as stated above. Below are descriptions of each puzzle. Screenshots will be added later to go with each.

PUZZLE 1: Bound Sensors
Four rows of "sensors" block the path as a simple security measure for the cave system. Like an average bound obstacle, timing is key. To deactivate the mechanism, one has to simply get past all four sensors. Seems easy enough.

PUZZLE 2: Lockdown Unlock
Three columns of flying air units make up the lock system. Each of the three flying units has to be stopped on a specific point on their respective paths in order to open up the main door to the caves.

PUZZLE 3: Match Up
Twelve units are concealed via cloaking from an arbiter. To continue through the caves, the adventurers have to correctly match each unit with itself before time runs out. When time reaches 0, however, the units are simply reset and the players are given another chance.

PUZZLE 4: Mastermind
In this puzzle, the players have to figure out the correct combination of three separate units to pass in eight tries or less. Beside each attempt is a marker that shows you which guessed units are in the correct place. This seems more complicated than it is, trust me.

PUZZLE 5: Minefield
Randomly placed mines will make up this maze-like minefield. Of course, stepping on a mine results in death, so they should be avoided at all costs. The mines, however, will be invisible and only a patrolling observer owned by an allied neutral player can reveal them for the players.

PUZZLE 6: Defense Systems
After getting past the mindgames, its time to fight the ddefense systems. Each player will select one of six units to fight with using special abilities rather than simply brute force. Much like an "impossible scenario," this puzzle requires a general knowledge of what special abilities work best against enemy units.

PUZZLE 7: Power Grid
To open the door to the final cave, a power grid must be fixed. Essentially an electric current is being blocked and must be routed to another generator. This system is still being developed, however, so not much detail about the actual gameplay can be given.

PUZZLE 8: Secret
This is the one puzzle that wont be mentioned. You just have to reach it to find out!

SCREENSHOTS

Thanks a bunch!

Oh and as a side note, the reason why I haven't posted any screenshots yet is because I'm doing extended terrain and everyone who knows me knows I use a Mac. Therefore I can only work on the terrain when I get to a friend's house. Ironically, I think that the triggers will be done before the terrain.

Considering they're randomized, I'm sure they wont be that easy. I am thinking about adding a few more puzzles, though, towards the end. So perhaps I'll ask for ideas once I get there.

You almost done with this map?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-10-02 at 17:55:42
Yeah, Lakai, this is what it was for.

@Urmom: Actually I've been having a ton of issues with the grids to create a random maze of spider mines. I think its mostly because I'm trying it with 1x1 tiles, so I'm using Medics. Sometimes the grid works, and other times it doesn't. But I promise this will be done pretty soon. My only major issue at this point is the fact that I have to do all my extended terrain on a friend's computer.

Haha thanks. I may ask for help on that one, Lakai, because basically I just used the exact same triggers in the map you sent me. Maybe you'll have better luck than me in finding out why it doesn't work.

Looks like it will be a fun map, reminds me of another map that was made not too long ago.

Really? Which one?

The inspiration for this was Kenoli's "Temple of Wonders," so that may be the one you're thinking of. But then again, he made it a long while ago and you may be talking about something more recent. Hmm...

Oh is that the map Trigga was talking about? I'll have to take a look at it. Its in the DLDB, I presume?

Hmm perhaps that will give me a little more inspiration for the final puzzles.

yea i remember, me and my careless mistakes. tongue.gif

Devlin, are you using mobile grids or pre-placed grids?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-10-02 at 20:21:02
Basically I'm creating 9 medics and centering locations on the mines under each. Then I've got some random removals of mines to create a linear path. So it would be mobile, I suppose. Though now I'm not so sure the grid is the issue.
