K, I'm pretty new to mapmaking but I had this idea for a melee map and I just thought 'What the hell lets try 'n make this'.

Now, one thing that is pretty important in my map is the 815 pathway. Making it at the edge is no problem at all but when I make it horizontally I fail horribly sad.gif

Ok so to illustrate what I mean, this is the vertical path at the edge which poses no problem at all.

Then, I had my first try at a horizontal one which was really hard. I tried using tiles that weren't completely unwalkable and covered them with floortraps but as you can see I can still drop tanks there.

Soon after that, I had an idea. One of which its tremendous triumph was only matched by its utter, utter failure:

So I ask you people: PLEEAASE find a way to do this.
(Oh and remember that I've only been doing this since 2 days, it doesnt get more newbie than me)

(Oh and dont tell me to 'start with normal mapmaking'. Not only is this a part of the concept I had in mind, it is VITAL for gameflow and general balance)

Try making just the end/start or the path tank unwalkable.

I know that is possible, but that wouldn't really change things...
On this map, once tank tech is achieved you can be pretty sure about the fact that droptech will exist too.
The entrances actually are really small (little stairs, y'know) but tanks can still be dropped ><

ADDITION:
Ok here it is. I didnt include the first try because it was a failure anyway, I think my second plan has a much higher chance of succeeding.


As you can see, the problem lies within the inner corners, rines/zeals cant pass through it...

The point is that you would be able to siege 2 islands, 4 bases , a natural and a min-only

So you can see that you're pretty damn screwed if a tank can be dropped. =P

Sorry to be off topic for terrain but your saying that once 2 siege tanks are dropped at the 2 locations the other oppenent is dead already? How about toss and zerg? That seems imbalanced.

As for omegas screenshot the bottom part seems blocky. Maybe because it is grouped too close or something I duno know. It looks like it wont blend in with his map though.

Why are you calling it the 815 pathway? This doesn't resemble 815 at all, 815 just features a skinny ramp.

Can we see a map pic?

What I mean by 815 pathways is that these pathways only allow the units that pass through 815 ramps to walk on them. I'm just calling it that because the most striking property of the map 815 is that thin ramp...
