Forest Rumble
(yes, this map was entered in the contest)

Map Specifications]

File Name: Forest Rumble[1].SCX
Map Size: 64x64
Type: RPG/Arena-ish
Tiletset: Jungle
Recommened Players:2-4

[Layout]
Here's the layout.  My idea on this map is just basically a series of 'boss fights' as in RPG maps. The arena part of it isn't much although it has a field setup like an arena and it's not vs other players.

[RPG elements]
There are some RPG elements in this.  Each player will take on a role of a warrior(Fenix Zealot).  You will be running around to kill enemies, avoid traps/damage, and players must cooperate with each other to kill a common foes and the bosses.

(Leveling/Experience)
The max level you can get is is 10.  To gain experience you must kill monsters/minions of course.  Every kill is worth 1 exp.  The leveling point will stay at 10 exp everytime, so 10 kills= 1 level up.  This may sound easy to level, but Leveling will get much more harder and more complex such as one kill will take some effort. You can upgrade at the forges when you level(Weapon, armor, shields).
Also note that you can only level 2 times per stage.

(Spells/Casting)
I will stick with the Shuttle casting system.  There will be no mana regeneration for mana costing spells.  Instead, the spells/skills you want to use will highly depend on your enemy kills.  Each kill will not only earn you an exp point, but will also add a skill stamina point also(Max is 10, and indicated by minerals). When you have enough skill stamina points, you can cast/activate a skill.  There are 3 offensive and 3 Defensive skills for use.  Offensive skills can kill monsters/minions and deal virtual damage to the boss.

(Bosses/Enemies)
The enemies on the field will spawn and roam randomly, attack, and/or act as minions for a boss.  There are 5 stages each with a boss/minions.  Certain bosses will have virtual hit points.  The virtual HP bar will be displayed on the right side of the map if they have virtual Hit Points.  So you can't just hack and charge at the boss.  You will have to rely heavily on taking monsters/enemies out to gain skill stamina points in order to use them.  The skills you will cast will do virtual HP damage to it.  So you will have to be actively running around and trying to avoid the boss' attacks as well. Certain bosses will have randomized attack patterns or no pattern at all.
Also the minions/monsters won't stay too long with there current combat statistics.  With each stage passed, there HP can/or not increase or they do more damage(like I said, leveling won't be as easy).
Since the battles will be taking place in a forest, the battle can range from critters(or things that live in a forest) to a roaming lively forest itself.  Though don't be expecting things in the map that resembles the real world...

(Misc and Items)
Each player will start with a healing potion. There will be healing points randomly spawning every so often(not implemented in yet).  You can only hold a maximum of 3 items in your inventory(for each player).
There are no revives in the map, but there are respawns.  Players can respawn on the next stage only if teammates that are alive defeats the boss on the current stage. If all players die on a stage, then it's game over.

yeah i know, i fixed the tags now...was going haywire...

anyway, each player has a hero zealot and the main objective is to kill stuff in the forest, mainly all the bosses and creatures in it. you can say that the forest is evil and alive, and your objective is to kill them all XD.

Loved the map, spent a couple hours with some pubbies figuring out how to beat it. Got to level 5, but then couldn't figure out how to damage the boss, and the Unit Unplaceables on the combat mage prevented us from getting enough mana to really try. Only other complaint was that the level messages didn't display long enough to comrehend the information; which made level 2 a lot longer that it should have been. Otherwise, awesome game. Any chance of a sequel?

I found the last boss to be extremely hard and annoying. I couldnt get any resources to use my skill to kill the boss. The spawning was really slow and they kept killing themselves :/

yeah, i admit i went a little hasty on this map. only had about 5 or 6 days before the contest was going to end and didn't get much testing in. so i just pretty much rushed and stuck in any idea i came up with into it. if i could've thought up of the idea sooner, i coulda did some more cleaning up on the map. i'm gonna see if i can clean up this map a bit more if i have time. being busy with a lot of stuff right now. i'll fix up the 4th and 5th stages a bit, add power ups, and see what else i can improve on the map when i do work on it.

Ahaha, this was good. I loved the leveling up system, and the spells...but the boss battles were tedious! And I died easily. So, it became very outdated quickly, but other than that, I loved it.

Congratulations on the success of your map.

How do you advance to the next level? Me and someone else spent like 5 minutes just killing random baddies with our Exp frozen. We touched the flaming bunker, threw spells at it, sat around, killed more monsters, but nothing seemed to happen.

You have to do enough damage to it to kill it. The HP bar is on the right.

I found it fun early on, but got bored quickly.
