Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Twilight
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Desperado on 2006-10-03 at 00:01:31
I've been looking to make another new RP on Twilight, but I have been hopelessly unable to find anything previously done. I've been testing out some familiar Jungle concepts to see if they work on Twilight. Any ideas? Anything out there you can post? Everything helps.

New Update! See if you can tell the difference. If not, don't criticize me, asshat.

The edges of the Water Platform are pretty sharp.. it would be nice to blend those a little better, if anyone has any ideas.

UPDATE: The sharp edges on the Water Platform won't really matter because the only way to connect it to land is by doing the following: user posted image

UPDATE OF ABOVE: Here's what happens when I make more complex shapes out of water platforms:

UPDATE: I've done some work with mountains. Unfortunately it's hard to blend extended cliffs on top of other extended cliffs because the conjoining tiles don't work the same way they do in Jungle. This is probably the blockiest one yet. Twilight is unforgiving.

UPDATE: Technically this city is a success, since this is a lot nicer than how it started. It still looks like crap though.

UPDATE: A lot of people complained that they didn't like my Jungle waterfall.. but I thought it was good. I remade it almost exactly for this screen shot.

Looks pretty good to me, the higher cliffs and stuff, but I'm a pretty basic terrainer, but in my eyes that looks quite natural, although I did not scrutinize it for like ten minutes biggrin.gif

It's a bit blocky in some places but overall look is quite good. Keep it up.

Well no one does twilight, and ive tried and not done too good at it either. 8/10, little sharp but not over-done like jungle. Keep at it.

Well, if I should be picky there are some height problem, I am sure they are fixable.

Some of the edges of the cliffs look unfinished, but i dont know how fixable it is since I have only tried twilight one time...

I thought it was pretty good how you made the woven looking part of the ramps into a kind of tile.

(I swear, if this is spam I'm going to cut my wrists)

I thought extended cliffs were impossible on Twilight but I managed to find a pair of tiles that works as the connecting edge from the 2x2 cliff face. Unfortunately there are only three different cliff faces in Twilight.

Search the forum for twilight, I have several threads on it. Sure they're blocky by todays standards, but they're cool nonetheless.

what do you mean by eye irritators, cause I see some weird things going on in that picture... Not saying it's bad, cause twilight is hard. smile.gif

...uh yea... I found your Twilight threads. I ignored them because of how bad they were. The problem with your stuff is that it doesn't blend at all, so you just crop out the bad parts in your screen shots so it looks like you have a clue what you're doing. It's kind of sad.

UPDATE: I have added a new version of the original picture into the original post. Also it seems that the sharp edges on the Water Platform won't really matter because the only way to connect it to land is by doing the following:

I like the last one. I can barely tell a difference between the first two though.

I crop out the pieces that are absolutely nothing, my terrainening isn't for maps. It blended, not well, but that was the first things I've done. I'll go redo them. They'll be better.

Exactly. And what sense does that make?

Oh and I just read this. Seems like it's taken out of context. Who is the 'you'? The only person I can think of who would fit the bill is Devilesk. This is just like your terrain screen shots, completely taken out of context to mean something it doesn't.

Looks ok. Yes, it's a bit blocky but it less noticable on twiling. smile.gif

New mountains are STUNNING. Terrain ladder maybe? You should submit them, no one does twilight so id think youd get promoted for something new and unusual.

I do it for the sake of killing time. You might not have noticed, but I don't make maps.

Firstly, you fit the bill. Secondly, he was talking about xMCx.

i rather like it although it seems kinna plain maybe add some sprites or units or something to make the cliffs look not so naked

This stuff turned out really well considering how damn hard it is to work with the Basilicas. I especially like the "first floor" thing I added to the buildings.

user posted image

Actually this stuff looks like crap, but it's the best you can do on Twilight.

Sadly that's true if only because I'm bothering to have this discourse with you. Oh! xMCx! He fits the bill too.

PS: I hereby declare the phrase "fits the bill" banned from further use in this topic.

Nah, it's just one tile repeating, try to find some blends on the buildings. Maybe 3-tile stack. tongue.gif
