Ive reacent ly been thinking about this and im wondering if its possible to creat units on a map so that it makes a movie type thing on mini-map.
Maybe mini-map pings can be used to make it cooler and a combo of player colors
I dont have enough time to do this so im asking anyone that is experienced enough to take the challenge then do
If you are interested in trying this then post here and ill give you any details you might need.
If you manage to do it, then i at least want credit for having the idea
Thanks and i hope theres some1 good enough to take this on
its technically possible, although it involves two tons of menial work, but you have to keep in mind that the mini-map refresh rate isn't instantenous, or even close to it. you will end up with a VERY choppy 'movie'
ADDITION:
ps, minimap movies have been thought up of already
I guess when i think about it, it is a lot of triggers, locations, and work.
O and i didnt know it was alredy suggested
But if anyone is willing
yes, many, many triggers. the underlying problem is the refresh rate, it will absolutely butcher any mini-movie map made. thats why you don't see these maps in the community.
on a related note, i once had the idea of making an arcade shooter, using the minimap as the main display. the reticle would be be your mouse and a recall spell. depending on what you recalled, you could detect what you hit.
It's already been done by somebody. He used a program to import Jpegs I think and his program converted that to triggers which give units.

Watch them both, one of them (I forget which one) plays super mario!
I remember bolt head making minimap designs and stuff... THat changed shape and made spirals. Thats kinda movie-esque.

It'd be cool if there was a program that translates pixels of an image to unit "pixels" on the minimap. I could probably manage that, too.

The supermario movie is really cool but I dont get what the other one is is it like some guy looking around or something?
Best Mini Movie I ever saw
1) Mario
2) Maze
Just FYI
FYI these were made by Laurent aka Fred_E aka Launcher(U) aka 'that guy who made sccolorscroller' yeah his program didn't convert JPEGs it had its own pixel paint and supported frame scrolling then it compiled all the frames into a trg file.
I thought the mini-map refreshed once you moved the screen, but I gotta update myself into that little thought.
Heh I thought it was impossible but I'm going to check out the mario map and see a movie map on a minimap. Lol I was wondering if they could have awsome battle scenes from actual movies and put them on a minimap.
ADDITION:
Omg how do I dl the darn thing every time it Try it saves it as stupid HTML file while I put All file types.
hold the TAB and ur minimap refreshs faster than normal ;P

They are corrupted.......
i dowloaded them and i tried to watch but it says that the seneario is invalid...
thats cause of server issues. when moosey fixes it, it should be fine.
If you put 40x40 units on a map (fits the unitlimit, correct?) you have something like pixels. If one brings up the patience - or writes a program that creates the triggers automatically - to translate bitmaps into this, you could just give those units to different players and there you have your bitmap. Multiple of these form a "movie". But 1 frame per second (or whatever) is a little... well, slow...

Did he ever publicly releace that program? id want to check it out if it did that sounds pretty cool that it can do that
Minimap pinging will refresh the minimap.
So, you could theoretically have a constant ping for your movie map.
(U)Bolt_Head started developing one of the minimap movies, but stopped because the minimap didn't update enough.

whats the parameters for this? does it have to be pinging for you? or can it be an allied player too? or just anyone in general?
Do any of the interesting extended players do this?
I am sure one must do it
Ask Hemindi

Possibally but there is also a good chance that they dont do it eather and you could find out some cool things trying this too even if it doesnt work
There is one so speed up gameplay y 2x or 4x would that do anything?
