As said in my Maps in Production thread. "I'm a big fan of the starcraft game of Risk, but I never liked how unbalanced it could be at times. So, I decided to make my own game of takeover and diplomacy:"

-Buildings
•28 Gateways: 7 with cybernetics cores, 7 with forges, 7 with templar archives. All with a cannon that deals 35 damage owned by a computer, 80 when owned by a human player.
•8 Barracks: The middle has Science Facility with Covert Ops and Academy, with 2 bunkers with 1 75 damage ghost and a marine in each of them. Rest have a photon cannon.
•10 Factories: 4 Engineering Bays, 4 Armories, all have 2 marines in bunkers.
•6 Hives: 3 with Ultralisk Cavern + Spawning Pool, 3 with Hydralisk Den + Evolution Chamber. Sunken that deals 40 owned by a computer, 90 owned by a human player.

All terran and protoss upgrades cost 30 with a factor of 10, and zerg upgrades are 10+10. The cap for upgrades is 10, to discourage simply massing cheaper units.

Attack upgrade bonuses are 1/20th of the units total damage, rounded up if exactly half. For example, vulture has a bonus of 6, and dragoon has a bonus of 3.

-Misc
•Countdown timer resets to 1:40.
•Income determined by buildings controlled. Each building adds this much:
Gateway: 10
Barracks: 15
Factory: 20
Hive: 25
Science Facility: An additional 20 to the barracks in the same territory.

Minimum amount of income for a turn is 40.

Controlling all 5 of the areas connected by lava or shale will yield a 1 marine, 2 zealot per-round bonus in the bases and a vulture+dragoon bonus at the factories.


Version changes:
1.1: Changed Ultra stats to 100 hp, 70 armor, 450 minerals from 800 hp, 15 armor, 550 minerals.
Added message details that 40 minerals is minimum income.

1.2: Raised ultra armor to 80.

1.3: Added a second hive at each zerg territory and enabled allying.

1.4: Added replenishment of computer units when players leave and for the starting locations that are unused.

1.5: Bug fix: overlords can no longer conquer territories.

I am in general very pleased with how this map turned out. I'll probably make another one after this anyways, though, that has more closed movement and more sectioned off areas. Even though the map is complete, I am still open to critiques, especially about balance (even after 11 BETA versions and 5 release versions). Enjoy.

This map is really fun. Its even better than risk because its more professional and unique. I suggest you download this and play this right away!

Well, after you creamed me at this, I played against two complete noobs.

It is a very, very good map if your can balance defense and capturing properly (which I only JUST learned).

If you like really quick games of Risk or Civilizations, get this.

When I played with Icy it was with a bunch of oo members and a couple friends, and it was actually a full house, a private game. It was almost everyone's first time except for a friend of mine who still wasn't very good, so it wasn't an exciting or close game like I've actually seen some to be, but it was still good, and it's really not that hard to find enough people. Perhaps this weekend I'll be able to play it with some people who haven't tried it yet smile.gif

Also, I never really said it before, but I'd recommend 5+ players. It can be a little dull with 3 or less, simply due to lack of interaction and combat with each other for the beginning, especially for the 1 person that is on the opposite side of the other 2.

What would you guys think of changing the ultralisk to 100 health, 70 armor, and lowering it to 450 minerals? That might give it more of a unique function rather than just sheer power, since I really don't want it to be overpowered... as it is right now, I kind of agree that it isn't worth the 550 mins, unlike ghost, which can be worth the 350.

Ye.. I use ultra only to capture the midle ghost place (since ghosts make crapty damage to big units)

And honestly, I just use 6-7 vultures to capture the middle, which costs a lot less than an ultra. I went and made the changes to 100 health/70 armor/450 mins, but won't actually upload the new version until I get a little more feedback and suggestions.

EDIT: Version 1.2 released with changes implemented, with ultra having 80 armor. Can't upload it yet, but oh well.

wow, very nice game. that is all. i'll give you a better comment after i play it a few more times(only once so far). but it is a very fun map.

ps i pwned Grand_Dracolich so bad...

Sure, bring that up, why don't you. 3 groups of zerglings, 10 vultures, 6 goliaths, and 2 hydralisks, went dont to a smaller army. It taught me the importance of upgrading pinch.gif.

Glad you guys enjoy the map, and I'm still open to suggestions; I think the last suggestion turned out really well with ultralisk stats.

Not really, goliaths can own ultralisks easily. This map is more balanced now.

Ultralisks were not worth how much they costed before, in general. Much better to have 11 dragoons or 4 goliaths and a goon, than spend the money on an ultra.

Now, they have 100 health instead of 800 health, cost 450 instead of 550, and have 80 armor instead of 15. This makes them very strong against cannons, dragoons.. anything that deals less than 80, really. Vultures, goliaths, hydralisks, and ghosts can kill it extremely quickly. This was my way of making the ultralisk not overpowered because of its strong counters but not completely useless like it was before. The way it would be overpowered now is if you got the ultralisk early on in the game, but it costs 450 minerals, and by that time other players should be able to obtain vultures. It just makes it interesting that you can't buy any counters for the ultralisk in any of the starting bases smile.gif

i really like this map, maybe in the next version u could add more, heights i guess, different terrain and a variety fighting places. seems kinda linear.

I recently played this with Kenoli and Holysin. This map is really balanced except when someone leaves the game. I stole all the inactive beacons and killed Kenoli and Holysin tongue.gif
