What are your opinions on E-mail? Do you think its a good or bad invention(if thats the correct term)? If you think its good then why? If you think its bad then why?

~Side Note : This is just an opinion topic, there is no right or wrong answer(to my knowledge)

I, personally think its a good for three reasons. The first is because it's a good way to socialize with other socities. The second is because its a very simple and easy way to pass on information. And the third is because I find it good for shopping(Amazon.com, Ebay.ca, etc).

What the hell kind of question is that? Firstly, most of the things you mentioned arn't email, rather they are online venues for communication, theres a serious difference, as email refers to a specific, now almost universally accepted technology, while the others are a collection of online services. No medium can of itself be good or bad, rather what it is used for determines its relative value. Unless you mean in quality, in which case I would have to say that email is entirely superior to snailmail for communication.

How is E-Mail bad? The best thing about E-Mail is that I can converse with those dear to me without waiting weeks for correspondence of spending insane amounts of money on telephone calls.

E-mail is bad because there's no "artisitc might" put into it. People have a tendancy to just delete the file and not remember what their friends said, as opposed to regular mail. Regular mail you put effort in to it and you can collect your friend and family's letters and look back on them smiling.

But in my case sending a written letter; which I do do from time to time, costs me 84 cents and a week for delivery..

I'd rather send an email, but I don't check it everyday.

Speaking with foresight, email could be a bad thing. People don't write many letters these days, and we learn much about history from them.

Imagine if there was a worldwide hardware failure - so much correspondence would be lost. Stuff which could have been useful for future generations trying to figure out the past would be gone.

Also, there is a tendency to put less thought into an email than a letter, due to the instant nature of the communication.

World wide malfunction of hardwares only lead to malfunctions of the human race in the future. as in plunging into a dark age.

ADDITION:
on a side note, email is a good invention because of faster and cheaper way of communication. Talk about wasting burgers a week if you had to send 10 letters a week. I don't give a crap about what my friends say over the internet, but i do read them aand mostlikely will remember. For more important businesses. Obviously read.

E-Mail is useful to a lot of things, but I mostly just use it to send files with at school.

I honestly see no reason for why it would be bad. If you have a problem with not putting thought into your e-mail, don't use email and send a letter..

I like email though, it's cool.

Very true, but I still believe that e-mail is useful. Instant messengers, however, can be very bad. They waste a lot of time in which you talk about nothing of importance. It also promotes multi-tasking, which as we all know from tux's thread is bad.

well email is helpful but no its not free because u need to first pay for the computer then the internet service each month thats not free email ur just spending the money somewere else but yes email is helpful because if no one answers the phone n ur no sure if the person got ur letter or if it got lost or anything just log in to ur email adress n send it to theres. its alot better

E-mails are a good invention because if someone doesnt live close to you they can send you to an email as opposed to sending a long distance pricey phonecall or sending an expensive letter to you.

Internet is the most primitive form of communication.

Email is an excellent invention. It's far cheaper, far faster and far easier to organize than paper mail, you can send useful files and animated pictures, and much of it is web-based so you can access it from any computer that can connect to the Internet. I don't see how it could possibly be bad.

I think it's as primitive as the Internet. Basically I think there are 3 "levels" of communication:

1 - a real conversation (mimics, gestures, intonation, body language)
2 - a phone conversation (intonation)
3 - everything else (nothing of the above)

In a company, if some problems suddenly appear, the boss calls a meeting, not an e-mail talk or a phone talk.

Yeah face to face is better than email but that doesnt make email primitive it was a great invention and has many purposes

In a company if people need to talk to eachother from work to house or house to work they can use emails incase the person at work is in a meeting they can still get it
