Staredit Network -> Clan [MM] -> Nanite Wars - General Thread

I'm making this topic to show the concept for the Nanite techtree in Nanite Wars. I've had this idea for a long time, and I've been struggling to find a way to make it work:

In a lightning raid, I managed to capture this Alliance Trooper! Hurray!

Whaaat? I still can't produce them? What a rip-off!

Oh, I haven't decoded the genome. (Say you capture a flying unit, you can reverse-engineer engines from that and produce your own flying units.)

Ah, there we go. smile.gif

Attack my minions, forward! Muahahahahahahahahaha!

Obviously as a non-Nanite player, you're going to want to make sure none of your technology falls into enemy hands, while the Nanites want to cripple enemies enough so they can retrieve technologies, but not so much that the targets are lost...

Comments?

Even though you already told me this, awesome concept!

Oh, and this is the 100th topic in the new MM forum smile.gif

Ooo, sounds fun.
Uh... micro ftw?

Micro FTW!

So the nanites capture non nanite tech to advance their tech?

Yes.

So what happens if there are no non nanite players?

They won't be able to steal techs from each other. There ARE basic units you can build, however (Voy told me this).

What do you mean they won't be able to steal techs from eachother? Who told you that? wink.gif

There are basic techs units that are available, you can also acquire technology from neutral units on the field.

Ooh, that sounds fun. Unless you're planning on using just critters (which, by the way, many maps do not have) you're going to have to make custom maps tongue.gif

I like it Voy. (:

I also like taking your ideas that you take from moose for avatars. (:

I love your idea, I was actually doing something like this for zerg. My concept was that when zerg mind controls a unit they can now make that unit or race yadda yadda but zerg bioengineered for the better version. Basicly its zerg evolving with what they have and what they have found so a "hybrid", and it should be sweet.

Actually, I made that avatar for Voy, although I didn't know he was going to use it as one...it was originally jsut meant to be silly. And it's actually a take-off of an internet phenomenon.

How do you make the stealing work? An upgrade that requries a unit of race X to work, and built units that require that upgrade?

Yes, that's the basic idea.

I have a question about your system, I havent actaully done myn yet. Have you figured out a way to perminantly unlock units without having a specific unit.

Heres a example if i mind control a marine, i can now build a infested marine, but if the marine dies i cant build the infested marine anymore. I dont want to have the infested marine as a requirement either I'd prefer just being able to build it from now on kinda thing.

Thats why you have to research a technology, this ensures that you can build them from then on.

I was thinking about that. I would prefer something that does it automaticly when you gain control of a unit, but whatever.

No, its an Air Building! Even though its not my mod, I plan on being stubborn about the point for an indefinite period of time!
