What you do is turn off Shared Vision for the player that you want the lighting system to effect. Then turn on Shared vision for a player that I call "The Lights" then put on some units (such as observers) to use as your lights.
PS: To make flickering lights just make and remove a light.
PPS: Make sure to say in your briefing to hotkey units.
Good technique and been used in a lot of maps (most notably perhaps Bolt's House of the Haunted).
Is there a tutorial about this? if there's not, there should be.

The lights do not 'flicker' they pulse on and off very slowly, like on then back off over 4 seconds, I wouldn't call that flickering. I tried that in my map 'Creepy Mansion'. I was stupid enough to leave it in when it obviously wasn't working.
sorry about the colour stuff i tried to make it work
Cool idea too bad you cant make it pulse fully tho that owuld be sweet
Btw you gotta do at the end of what you want that color
You can make lights flicker if your using hyper triggers right.
No, because visibility is only updated once every few seconds.
Oh ya, forgot about that.
Tis a pity.
Could you use multiple computers creating/removing air units about the spot you want for the flickering effect?
I don't know, niu. I think the vision calculations are updated all together; not individually for each player.
SC works well for creating vision, but not so well for updating where it doesn't exist anymore. Another lazy bit of old blizzard programming, probably (or an attempt to fit the system specs as advertised).
I think it was more of a gameplay issue than a performance one. It gives an advantage to players that keep their units moving - they can see more.

Correctamundo!
Go to 'my controls' and edit your member title in 'edit profile info'.
You need 5-15 (I forget how many) posts to do it though.
