Sony has faced a ton of bad news recently. I mean, they had to recall like 1.7 million notebook batteries (some large number at least), and the PS3 has a huge price tag. My question to you is this:
A recent report stated that Sony would be releasing 80k PS3s in Japan and 400k PS3s in the U.S. on their respective release dates. Even though the U.S. has five times as many PS3s for launch, why does Japan get the primary release of PS3s? Is it just prestige because Sony is Japanese?
Most likely, its probably another way for them to get back at the Americans by making us wait longer for the PS3 to launch. That's my guess anyway.
Probably. Or maybe that can be their trial run or something.. I'm not really sure how the sales of products like these work. Since Japan is much smaller scale, if there is a problem, they can fix it before US shipment..?
No way. The difference in release dates is like six days... By that time stores already have their units.
Oh.
Well, maybe it's just because they are manufactuered in Japan(guessing.) Maybe it takes a while to ship them all out, and get them ready I guess.. I'm clueless, just guessing.

They would be losing money then..
Yes, but the leaders of giant companies care about America and want to teach the illegitimate children of America patience.
Probably has something to do with shipping. Can't think of any other expanation.

Like you said, Japanese care a lot about illegitimate children of America (which are the only children in America, obviously).

Clearly a sterotypical comment. Thats not true.
I think it may have something to do with Xbox 360 being so popular in the United States.

I wasn't really agreeing with that. It was sarcasm.

Um, since when has Sony been afraid of Microsoft?? I think Sony is more afraid of how much better the Nintendo Wii is than the Ps3. Knowing Sony, if they would've had the chance, they woudlve released the Ps3 along with the Xbox360.
BTW: Read my Sig
Final Fantasy XIII is going to pwn all though.
I honestly can't see the PS3 achieving anywhere near the success of the PS2. PS3 has some titles going for it, but the 360 has been around for like a year (and has some titles going for it), and the Wii has about 10x the hype of the PS3 (and some big titles for it as well). Instead, I'm going to pay $3000 for a kickass gaming PC that will last me as long as a $500 console before it becomes the heaviest paperweight that I'll ever have owned, and I'm going to love it because it's going to be beautiful.
Look at the size of the country, Japan is relatively tiny to America. If they set up a single release date for each country, it would generally take more time to set up every store in the country with the proper amount of the product. Not to mention that the product orders would be coming from across an ocean.
They want to make sure that every company in the country that wishes to get in on the profitability of the PS3 has a chance to sign up, and receive an order. So that:
A. They get more PS3's sold.
B. The longer a company waits after the release date to acquire a product, the less chance they have of selling said product at the highest price.
Also most companies in America also like to watch how a product starts selling in other countries before they make their orders. (If you buy 1000 units of PS3's and then find out PS3's flopped in japan, you won't be guaranteed a good turnout..)
