The most important thing that I have learned in College in not of Einstein's Photoelectric Effect, how to vastly improve my writting skills to a point to which my english proffesor is astounded by, slep in every spanish session, argue with my Pre-Calculus II teacher about her teachings (Yes, I went down from Calculus I to Pre-Calsulus because the University made an error). It is time management, that of which will lead me to my graduation.
Some may think that time management is asy. I currently take 17 hours of classes per week, of which counts to a total of 14 credits. I have 3 hours of practice every day. I have to study. I have a girl to attend to. I have friends to laugh with. I have housework to do. One could say that mathematically, it is a simple feat to achieve. An average of 7 hours devoted to classes and practice and 8 hours towards sleep. That leaves 9 hours, a very large chunk of my day, to devote to anything I want. This is the most incorrect assuption ever made, even if mathematical formulas prove so that it is indeed correct.
On some days I have a bunch of classes put toghether, on others I only have 1 or no classes. On light days, I sleep late, meaning that I lost most of my morning. You also never have a perfect schedule like at High School, in which you had all your classes one after the other, now you got a bunch of free periods in which you have to do something. Usually this is used to study, but I also have friends and a girl to attend to. For these sort of things, I have set hours to which I devote my time to them. On my free hours to which they have classes, I usually study or go cook and do some housework. Why don't I study and see my girl and friends after? Because I practice from 4:30 to 7:30, which means I already lost my afternoon and possibly my night, depending on how tired I am.
Time Management heavily depends on others, not on yourself. You need to socialize, you will never get to your prized graduation without recieving help from someone, support, and having good times with those of whom you like to be with. I study between classes, I hang out at my 2 lunch hours, I practice after class. I sleep from 12PM to 6AM. That means I have about 4 hours to do anything. These are usually used to do any lesser hobbies of mine, like computers and stuff. I may go out with my friends and/or girl, but do remember that she lives 20 minutes from me on a good traffic day and I have to wake up early, so I can't go out nd drink/party as we would like to every day.
To finish your thoughts about "Why is beer talking about his life?", I'll let you know that these are just basic examples that I've experienced regarding Time Management. Time Management is that which will dictate your possible graduation, your social life, your personal life and your future. You will never be able to follow a calendar of which you have made, other people have different calendars to which you will react and one way or another, will have to merge.
Note that this essay has several purposes:
1) To inform you guys of what I've been up to
2) Give a word of advice
3) Practice an essay technique which I'd like to develop ( Analisis of this would be great)
Well, obviously you're not writing this for a class (as I inferred from your last point at the end), so I'll just bypass the somewhat sloppy grammar and word choice (because that stuff is easy to fix). What you said makes sense, but there are definitely some questions to be answered and points to address. For example, is the use of "I'm tired!" a valid excuse for not being productive? At the very least, I think it weakens your argument. Don't you also have a lot of mandatory schoolwork that you have to do in your "free" time, thereby cutting down on the amount of truly free time you have? Also, you've stated that you need time management to get through college, but you haven't stated why you wouldn't be capable of graduating without time management. Sure, it worked for you, but why wouldn't something else work for you as well? I'm not saying you need to follow my advice - I just threw some ideas up in the air.
I don't have enough time to do anything I want anymore.. and I'm in highschool
Time really pisses me off because I can never follow my scheduale correctly.
I'm having serious problems with time management at the moment. My sleeping pattern is all screwed up and I think I'm going to struggle to get in my assignments and essays on time.
I need to give myself a kick in the ass but unfortunately my leg doesn't bend that far.
My priorities really come in handy here:
1. Sleep
2. Food
3. Games
4. Anything else
5. School.
My policy on school is if i cant get it done in study hall, it doesnt get done.
My sleeping hours are bad too, but that comes with the territory of trying to find 5 or 6 hours in the day to draw without being bothered. Luckily, I don't have much school to worry about these days and my brother watches my son so I can sleep late. I've enrolled my boy in a preschool, but there's a waiting list. I hope his turn will hurry up and come so I can get my few hours of drawing in during the day rather than late at night.
My schedule Tuesday - Thursday (Monady and Friday is almost like this aswell):
06.30: Wake up
07.00: Take the bus to the school
07.55: Arrives at school
08.00 - 14.30/15.15: School
15.10: Take the bus back home
16.00: Dinner
16.30: Gaming
22.30: Go to bed
Time management makes everything easier. I have a schedule layed out so that I can do almost all of my homework in the times between classes, or hang out with friends if there is little homework. I'm getting roughly 8 hours of sleep a night, from 9:00pm to 7:00am daily. THe biggest change in my current timeschedule, is due to my classes starting at 9:45 at earliest, I have time to make myself a big breakfast each morning.
(I'm getting to be quite a chef.)
But I suppose I've always had a rather regimented lifestyle, so this is no big change for me.
I have a problem with managing my time correctly, I double book myself very often and sometimes I have to do both things instead of skipping one.
It's tough, but it sometimes work very well for me, if it doesn't, I think something like "Well screw that"!
I'm not that good at essays/writing myself, so I'll skip the analysis part (sorry), except to say that it kept me interested in what you had to say and was overall enjoyable to read.
I don't have that many problems managing my time. I have about 6.5 hours on average devoted to school, 2.5 hours on traveling to and from school. I sleep for (usually) 5-7 hours on weekdays. So that leaves me with 9 hours per day doing free time (No, wait.. that can't be right. Come home at 3:30, then free time until 11:00.) Well, errors aside, about 9 hours. Two of those are spent on homework, 30 minutes on lunch/dinner, 3 hours reading (not consecutively), and the other 3:30 I spend on computer, playing or being on the internet.
The only problem is procrastination, but that isn't a big problem for me either. I never leave it to the night before the day whatever it is is due, though I could leave it to the last day if it's a small project.

Thanks for the feedback, although as you've said, there is no need to revise the post, it'll make me think more around the piece of writting next time.
Sleep hasn't really been a problem, as seems with some of you guys. I used to get a solid 8 hours of sleep during High School, but now I get 5~6 hours on average. I've acustomed myself to lesser amounts of sleep, which I think is just a psychological change in my sleeping pattern, because I feel pretty well rested when I wake up and I last through the whole day with less time of sleep.
I've also been bathing right before and after I sleep, so I generally feel cleaner and maybe more refreshed. I never bathed during the morning before, I had air conditioning at my house so I just bathed at night, went straight to bed and woke up to school. Now I don't have air conditioning, so I have to bathe before class.
These are the two factors that I think have helped me with sleep.

Rantent, 9-7 is 10 hours.
Anyway, time management happens to be a problem with me too, I always feel I don't have enough time to do everything I want (mainly gaming) so I end up not doing my homework until first period. I've been remarkably lucky finishing my assignments within 30 seconds of them being due, but still I'm pretty sure the stress from rushing on my assignments is unhealthy and decreases the quality of my work. Regardless of knowing this I can't pull myself from my games to do my homework, I always say I'll do it later . I'm sure this will eventually get me into some trouble, but so far I'm doing alright except for major stress issues. You cant get them done in 30 seconds if they are supposed to be a 2500+ word essay.
Read what I said carefully. It's not I get them done in 30 seconds, it's I get them done 30 seconds before class starts.
Same thing in time limits. I never stated when it should be done. For a formal essay, I don't see how you could finish a essay, print it, and go to your class.
At the moment I'm having a crisis of time management - I've managed to sort my bedtimes out and cure my iron deficiency (I haven't had any iron-containing meat since going to university) which was causing extreme fatigue, but I have two major essays to hand in next week. I know it sounds like a long time, but at this level you have to do proper research - not just reading a textbook or whatever.
I spent two hours in one of the libraries here yesterday, trying to pick out useful stuff from in between a mass of old books written in ancient Greek. The problem with studying ancient history (which is one of the things I'm doing) is that a lot of the stuff is in Greek or Latin so you find out that you spend much of your time trying to find something written in English!
Once I'd found the stuff I needed, I spent another half an hour at the photocopiers, copying the relevant pages so I don't have to borrow the books (which means other people can't read them - I'm a considerate historian!
). After that, I took them back to my room where I spent another hour or so reading through the stuff and highlighting the relevant material.
When you get given questions like:
'The demos yearns for him and hates him too' (Aristophanes,
Frogs 1425). Is this an accurate description of the Athenian attitude to Alcibiades?'
You know that university is a big step up and you need to change your attitude towards study pretty quickly.
<-- This is me going crazy because I can't manage my time.
I have to say, that I do have problems with time management. I'm very moody, so if I have a good mood, I can work quite hard, but if I'm in a bad mood, I just can't think about anything serious. The hard part is forcing myself to do what needs to be done. And also it's sometimes hard to do something today when you can also do it tomorrow.
I was being lazy the 10th grade, because it was relaxed after the 9th grade exams. It seems like I can't get out of this relaxation, but I feel that I must - the subjects that I am not naturally good at are slowly going downhill.
I quess I understand now that you must not have time for Starcraft.
