Okayz. For my movie, there is a shot where one of the characters is about to explode. But its not a bloody explosion, its more like a burst of yellow sparks. I'm not as well versed in photoshop as I'd like to be, and for that reason I can't create the effect I want. I want the character's lines to go from black to a bright, GLOWING yellow, before the character himself turns into a glowing yellow silhouette and finally explodes.
We'll use this picture for the challenge!
Here's what I want you to do.
-Turn Pinocchio's (only Pinocchio's) black lines into a glowing yellow. That means the lines that make up the drawing of him himself, and his hair, eyebrows, pupils, etc., anything black on Pinocchio. Leave Gapetto alone. This can be one picture.
-The next picture I want is to have Pinocchio as a glowing yellow silhoutte. Once again, Pinocchio only.
-The last picture I want is of some glowing yellow dots (kinda like stars or sparks) in the original picture. Think of the sparks that fall after a fireworks display.
-And finally, tell me how you did it so I can do it too!
The first person to accomplish this gets 500 minerals and a "Special Thanks" credit in my movie (you can PM me your real name, as I'd prefer not have internet aliases in my credits). Show me what you can do!

One day of training in the hyperbolic time chamber.
I traced the whole outline with the pen tool, stroked it with 2px of yellow, the fill the large black areas the same way.
Then a 2px gaussian blur.

I just tried it myself, and it's perfect. It'll work for the silhoutte and spark effects I need too. Syphon wins the Doodan challenge! Thank you.

First thing you gotta do is spell my last name right.
