  I have a little spare time on my hands, so I have decided to work on this as a little-big side project.  My friend inspired me to make this type of map because he made a DoTA like style map also, but used his own ideas into it as well.  I have also wanted to try and make sort of a DoTA map from wc3, but never had the time to finish the whole thing...Anyway,  I know it'll never be DoTA,  but like my friend, I'll use a few of the concepts from it and my own style of making it.

[Introduction]
  This map will be a DoTA like map, but for a StarCraft version of it with my own ideas and concepts into it.

[Features]
-Levels (probably 25-30 levels) - Each level will get you more life when you heal, 
  gold(minerals) to upgrade your stats and buy items.


-Items and inventory (health and mana potions,  passive items that can effect 
  mana regeneration rates, gain more cash off kills, town portals, allow extra 
  abilities and skills to use and more)


-8 heroes (4 heroes for each side) - Each hero will have their strength and 
  weaknesses.  So I will try to balance the units as well as I can. The hero units 
  will be:

     -Fenix(Zealot)
     -Fenix(Dragoon)
     -Raynor(Marine)
     -Raynor(Vulture)

     -Devouring one
     -Hunter Killer
     -Kerrigan (Ghost)
     -Schezar (Goliath)


-4 unique skills for each of the heroes(total of 32 abilities) - You will start out with
  a skill to use.

-Shuttle/Drop Casting System
-There will also be the ability to upgrade your skills every 4 levels (skill is maxed
  at level 3) - You can't upgrade a skill unless you have it first. You also can't
  upgrade ultimate skills.


[Progress]
  -Outline/Ideas: 98%
  -Terrain: 96%
  -Locations: 84%
  -Triggers: 33%
  -Units: 78%

There are already already a lot of DotA maps out. Most of them are really bad. I hope your's become better.

I havent seen any DotA maps on SC yet. Unless you mean those AoS maps.

I play Europe for 1 hour each day because of friends. I don't see any of them. If there were, it would probably have spreaded to USEast, West etc.

There are tons of DotA maps released, but none of them are even worth playing. I've actually cancelled my "DotA" project before, but I'm starting to work on it again, with more of an AoS type of layout.

Anyways, finish this map, unlike me, and show the world that it's possible to create a good AoS/DotA map on StarCraft.

I never played those aos maps, can you tell me some info on them?

the map is going pretty well. the terrain is looking pretty good and balanced in my opinion, but the only thing i have trouble is naming the map and units...i'm wondering if i should i just keep the unit names as default for starcraft or come up with wierd names for them. which would you prefer?

AoS maps are usually based on three teams, Terran, Protoss and Zerg (usually with different names.) One of the greatest differences from DotA is that you don't have any kind of abilities. There are also a lot more units spawning. You earn money that you upgrade with instead of leveling. I think those are the main differences between DotA and AoS.

In this map, I have just put Protoss/Terran versus Zerg/Terran, so I'm just making it sort of how the Zerg and Protoss are always at war with each other in the starcraft campaign/story. You gain cash from each kill and level.

I redid the units in the first post. I also listed the statistics for them and i'm wondering if it looks balanced to you guys?

the terrain and setup is almost done. I am starting to work more on my triggers, spells, and the towns on both sides.

Interesting Concept of Z/T vs Z/T.

We wouldnt know if it looked balanced until you tested it.

The P/T vs Z/T concept does make sense to me, so it would fit well to make a map like this i think...

I have everything almost done except for the triggers. I also remodified the hero units. so two armies will be clashing with each other in 3 lanes...hopefully it'll be balanced.

DoTA = Defense of the Ancients (WarCraft 3 Game)
AoS = Aeon of Strife (Made by Gunner_4_Ever)

DoTA is based off of AoS in terms of heroes and concept.

Ugh.... so many people try to make dota maps on starcraft, plain and simple: it's NOT going to work, unless your just stealing the dota name and nothing about it is like dota. If your going to try to make one, just use shockos idea and have two units, a ranged and a melee, and make them represent every hero in dota. So there is actually 80 Heros instead of 8, and there spells are all unique like in dota. Otherwise, all this is is an arena map using the DotA name. No real dota items, heros, or names.

well, i am making this more starcraft based than wc3...so it is similar to dota in some ways, but it won't be dota in a way or maybe more of an AoS style(heroes and concepts) as some people said, I don't know because I never played any of those AoS maps.

anyway i am sticking mostly starcraft themed stuff and my own ideas into it.
3 lanes with 2 armies clashing with each other. It'll have leveling,items, and upgradable skills, along with other things as I said above. I can even add in more heroes if i have more room to add them. it'll just be an offensive/defensive, team arena or something, and a little rpg-ish all in one map.

I also named the map, but hope it doesn't sound a bit cheesy. blink.gif

ADDITION:
phew, been working on this map for quite a bit now. so i think its almost finally going to be done. Only things needed to be done is to add the abilities for the other heroes, add in some items, and adjust the balancing. So far, i am enjoying making this map and i'd say it'll be pretty fun once its finished.
8 heroes, 4 unique skills(skills 1-3 are upgradeable), and 30 levels for each. As said before, this map will be entirely starcraft themed, but just a smaller scale concept of Dota and my own ideas will be in this.
