Quicknotes:
For the most part I've officially decided to trash bin this map and get back on course with some of my other starcraft mapping projects. I began working on this map around mid june or early june and stopped about when august came around. It was supposed to be for the RPG contest here on SEN hosted by moogle, but I just never got around to finishing it. Anyway if you're wondering why this post is here now, it's because there were a few people who really enjoyed testing this map with me and believe that it's not so bad(I disagree). So before i trash it, I decided to at least get a public opinion on the map, and if I feel like it i'll simply release a open book form of the map that is easily editable and someone can continue it if they want. But for the most part i'd just like to see how this map rates among the map making community and see if it was worth the experience I obtained while attempting to make it. Thanks now I'll get down to the gist of the map.

Storyline:
There is a myth or a legend in our world of a Jewel and a warrior who defied a nation and free'd his people, our people, from their sentence to annihilation. It tells of a young prince, his mother Arcanian and his father a Liqambian. One day a strange man came the prince's father, and left with him only a message and then left to never be seen again. Since that day on the King began acting very vigurously and would refuse to see or speak with his wife or child. After a month the King ordered a decree to have all Arcanians slaughtered, and those who kill them before the king were to be rewarded. Before he announced this new law.... he killed his own wife. The young prince made an escape thanks to his friend, he went on a journey and learned of his heritage and what it meant to be an Arcanian. He learned of who his mother was and who he was and what it was only he could do. However he could not come to grasp with the logic behind his father's new law to kill Arcanians. After 3 weeks of preparation the boy set out to seek the power to fight his father, it was believed that the almighty god ALMA could give the Arcanian children such a gift. The boy came face to face with many trials and tribulations and it nearly cost him his very existence. Before his god he stood defeated but ready to perish, he challenged god to give him the power to fight back. The god "ALMA" spared him and gave him the power which he had sought after. Much to his surprise, the power was contained within a Jewel(Known in myth as the Arcane Jewel). When the boy returned from his journey he learned his second homeland, where he trained, was found and being ravaged by thousands of his father's soldiers. In an instant... he annihilated all of them without slaying 1 Arcanian. The prince raised an army of Arcanians, the survivors and then sought after his father's citadel to destroy him and end his rule of terror. An Epic battle insued, and as far as the tale goes... it ended here, there was no mention of a victor or winner.

You begin the game as a group of 3 Arcanian Soldiers en route to a Containment Facility, what awaits you is unknown but an adventure unraveling the truths of a myth and the heritage of many people is about to unfold. Is the myth real... or is it all just another children's fairy tale...

Gameplay / Fighting System:
  You start of playing as one of 3 officials who are en route to a Containment Facility, and that's all you're told. The fighting system is something I called ATB(Active Turn Battle Mode) but only a rough draft, or a prototype of it. It short, it proved failure, or at least too complicated. It derives being able to fight enemies in a Real / Turn based style using Command points, you fight anywhere and enemies encounter you as they would in real life. For instance, I began the game where if you run by or too close to an enemy unit who is minding it's buisness it may or may not try to confront you, and begin a battle. Enemies can also call for help from other nearby enemy units. You'll fight right where you are as a temporary battle zone, and some battle zones(not in the Alpha) were going to have elemental and battle effecting features. As for fighting, everything requires Command Points. The available commands are as follows;
-Attack
-Move
-Item
-Initiations(Not in the Alpha)
-Arcane Arts(Not in the Alpha)
-Combo Attacks(not in the alpha)
-Echo Summoning(Not in the Alpha)

I had set it up so that each and every attribute in the game was increasable by accessory equipping and Leveling up. Just never got around to it really.
There are 2 items in the Alpha;
-Tonics(Heal your character to max Hp)
-Frey Bombs(Mines that detonate after being triggered)

On a final note for the battling system, it's not as I had intended it to be and flawed in many ways. Don't be surprised if you find gliches or are confused easily.

Alpha Test:
Kinda hard to call it a test since there won't be a final, or at least not from me, but nontheless here's the map and a small explanation.
The Alpha only allows you to play as subcharacters, that's right the people you play as arn't the people you play through the game with, it's just for the prologue of the game. The Alpha has about 3/4 of Chapter 1 done, and only goes as far as the first boss, which is actually the only thing im even proud of in the game. If you download and try the game, don't play by yourself, it's supposed2 require 2 players to start the game but I didnt add the components to limit that yet. And as a tip, save your tonics and watch the intro. Enjoy the map and please rate it in the poll, it'd mean alot to me. Thanks! smile.gif
Click Here to Get the Alpha Test!

P.S. If you would like an unprotected Copy of the map ask me in a PM, don't go unprotecting it cuz all the sounds will corrupt.

Wow! Really cool battle system (unlike that from Faith and Destiny). Although I think it lacks information (text or better sound) about your current action has finished and you must choose it or other action again. It could be also pretty nice if the enemies would have (as a group) their own 'virtual' action points and can't attack/move when thehe are out of it (they have unfair advantage so far). But I understand that it can be hard to freeze them ;/. It is visible that some effort was put into that map!

Not to be bugging you, but it's called Fate & Destiny. biggrin.gif
I think Endriaire is getting pissed at people saying Faith & Destiny, because it's a stolen version.

Yeah, you're right. I heard about that theft and was unsure now wchich version is correct. I risked at "Faith" but it was bad shot tongue.gif.

Until u get to the first Boss, none of the enemies have to use CP because theyre all special. You find out y at end of that alpha.
And yes the battle system lacks clarification, its a failure imo but its up non the less.

Did anyone make it to the boss?

I did but I've lost to him sad.gif. I like the terrain and the ideas but fights, although battle system is good, are kind of thinkless. Some spells and special abilites would introduce more planning during battles and significantly raise playability. You could also give some special attack for the bosses (like fury attack of CC in third level of Rush) when player woul'd better move away or f.e use shield he has got before - everything you want to prevent player from thinkless clicking on Attack during battle. I'd also insist on making either ordinal enemies AP-limited so that ppl won't be forced to watching zerglings attacking from all directions his frozen hero all the time tongue.gif. Other of that maybe introducing AP-cost of item usage would work fine?

My boss has such skills, problem is if you dont understand the system hes way too overpowered.

I barely managed to beat the boss alone, with 6 health at the end and used both of my tonics. Was somewhat annoying then how the battle didn't end though (nothing happened), was I meant to kill him when he was exhausted? (I finished him off when he was getting ready for his big attack)

For people having trouble with the boss, you should pay attention to what armor he has while he's attacking and what his armor is when he's exhausted. Also keep in mind you can move, and not just attack.

It's not a proper demo so that's where the game is ended at. Havnt added anything for after that.
Glad you beat the boss, im glad its near impossible for someone to beat 1p.

Did you like or dislike anything else or like anything about the map?

Its a good map, but intro is too long. You shouldnt use observers a lot. The map seems good though. Good luck.

Quite a few bugs. Errors with vision... Battle System discrepencies.

I voted it a 4 because it has a professional look and the storyline can definitely be fixed up. Mr. Wigglesworth? Come on... im sick of all these 'kiddie' storyline influxes like 'The Forgotten Legacies' lame childish storyline.

Beef it up.

This map could be really good. But the battles are too boring. And sometime you can just skip them by running from the zerglings.

The So called "skipping" battles was just a way of avoiding them if u run by before they start a battle with you. And I do agree that the battles are boring, I had lotsa stuff planned but didnt wanna add hella stuff in the beginning. Thanks for the rating.

Actually, I loved the battle system. It might seem boring to people who don't know what 'normal' is for Starcraft. But any decent map maker or gamer should recognise that this system has potential...

I recogmend you do the follow...
• Make enemys use the same system (as a team to cut back on triggers) where as they all move to reach your heroes and then can attack, powerup, or use a special abillity. The only thing that fustrated me was being attacked 24/7 while I myself didn't have that luxery. Try to make it a give-take type system where like. Lings would have shorter pauses for rests. Heroes have varied rests inbetween actions? Maybe attacking requires less recovery than run/walk for certain heroes? You could maybe choose stat points in the beginning like : you have 10, place them in the places you want them during the cource of the game. And you could have Strength, Endurance, and other stats that would be directly attributed to the different cooldowns.
• Make enemys not just attack you, but also run around aimlessly sometimes in confusion, animals are dumb sometimes, not just humans...
• Better Item system is a must... how about you don't have to equip the items before battle? I don't like running out of potions to use and yet i have 6 stashed away that I found through exploration and good deeds.

You should finish this map.

All the stuff you said is true, and to fix the map I'd have to rebuild from the ground up and I'm just not feelin' that idea. Maybe one day i'll try it but not today lol. I'll have a new rpg coming around for you guys soon, it's alot more reliable and informative but it uses a different kind of fighting system. And thanks for the tips Wooden, wish more people were so helpful.
