Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Perfect Triggered Attack System?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SomeIdiotNerd on 2006-11-11 at 23:55:20
Well i've been on the search for the perfect trigger attacking system. i've tried so many things, but theres always been some sort of problem with them.
• Dark Swarm System - Best thing i have ever seen. However, the look of a defiler does not remind you of any marine.
• Distruption Web System - perfect system, however Corsairs are to fast and can fly.
• Science Vessel System - thought i might use this. However, the triggers are way to confusing to me, and they can fly
• Maelstrom System - could work, however Dark Archons are to bulky and not the warrior type.
• Psionic Storm System - A good possibility. However, Templars are to slow...

-Bottom line is...is there any perfect trigger attack system?

Addition - I thought of using a Ghost Lockdown System, however, even though the Lockdown attack was available as a unit sprite, it crashes StarCraft and is not available in the trigger editor of StarForge.

2nd addition - Thought of using a Medic Restoration System, however it was not available at all.

Edit - Haha i haven't tried it yet but i had just thought of using a Scanner sweep Bombing System, rofl that would be hilarious. I'm gonna go try it.

It'd probably work. Moose used the scanner sweeper for spells in his map.

Your scanner sweeper thing could be like tux's Defiler Shooting system, except, there wouldn't be the hassle of focusing on your unit, ECT.

And, what's this for anyway? The scanner sweeper thing, IMO, doesn't seem to have any purpose except for WW maps where you go bombing...or maybe puzzle or hand-coordination maps.

Anyway, your ideas are great, but there is a way I think. Even though I have no idea what they are, EUD conditions' would probably help you tongue.gif.

I can send you my hallucination gunner map if you would like.

well, there is a selection system(that can be used for combat) in production - FRAGS - basically, its makes the right mouse button a trigger condition and has no limitations on range, units, and alot of other annoying technicalites..

although its NO WHERE near to being complete. 4 of us have tried, and none of us has finished the system(as fas as i know). this is just a heads up.

you can check out the concept thread for more info.

That wastes tons of locations and is complicated to trigger though.

well, 128(64 if you use 2x2 sensitivity) locations. trigger must definitely = very difficult pinch.gif i wouldn't normally recommend anything like this but he sounded desperate ermm.gif

You can recycle the locations for other things as well though... not all that hard...

(if I get some time, I'll try to recontinue it)

The scanner sweep didn't have to do with anything, i was just bored. And besides it didn't work anyway...

i've heard of that somewhere before, it would be nice if you sent it.

Wow now that sounds cool, i'll check it out.

And since i'm on the subject, can someone explain to me what EUD's are? i'd really like to try and use them.

EUDs are triggers that take advantage of buffer overflows into Starcraft's memory.
They allow you to do things that you can't do with normal triggers. They have a big disadvantage, though: patches can change the memory table and thus make your EUDs not work anymore (last patch did this, but it is not said that the next will do the same). Also, they don't work on Macs.

When they were discovered at first, we were able to use both EUD conditions and actions. But the actions did crash Mac users, and Blizzard got to hear about this, so they "disabled" EUD actions.

An EUD trigger looks like this:

C: Player X has suffered exactly/at least/at most Y deaths of Z
A: whatever

And EUD action would use "set deaths".

X,Y and Z are special in this case: They go beyond the usual range of 8/12 players, and they use units that don't exist, for example unit number 12782 or whatever. Hence the name: Extended Unit Deaths.

If you want to know how to work with those, you need to ask someone else, I am no pro with these. I can only tell you that there is some knowledge of programming and maths involved.

On topic: I prefer a system where you control whatever unit you want, and have an additional corsair that is only brought to your hero unit when you are allowed to cast a spell. This does not work as a gunner system as you can do with the defiler (the corsair doesn't even cast fast enough), but depending on what you need it for it can be a nice system.

I'm pretty sure that the scanner sweep can be detected, but cannot have a location centered on it, or something of that sort. I read it somewhere here... That'll prove to be a problem with that idea.

ADD: Oops, someone already said it didn't work. Sorry.

rofl i've been using EUD's this whole time and i didn't even realize it...thx for the explanation though.
