Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-11-12 at 12:22:09
Here we go, yet again.

As a reminder, October's Theme was Horror.
Let's get that judging criteria out there again:
QUOTE
Theme (10) - How well does the map fit the theme? Something premade with a few text changes (ie, your forest map from last month which you didn't enter with "ZOMBIE TREE" isn't a good idea). This is no longer a static black and white 0 or 10 rating, there will be a range. The map will now be graded on how important the theme is to the central ideas of the map. A map scoring 0 on this won't be graded further, regardless of how well it fits.

Fun (25) - Most of the time, the deciding factor in contest entries. Important for me as I'm playing the map. Am I running around having a good time, or watching a unit talk to itself in a movie? Are there huge bugs that prevent play of the maps? Are there cool new systems and spells and difficulty levels and such things to keep the game interesting? Replay value is a plus for this score. If I ever go to this map again, is it going to be to play it over and over and give to my friends or to delete the scm/scx?

Aesthetics and Professionalism (15) - Did you use one type of terrain tile and no text color? Are there mispellings distracting me at every turn with some poorly made triggers? Hopefully you can create something that looks and feels decent. I'm not asking for extensive extended terrain or hundreds of sprites, a map that seems well-made should score well. On the subject of professionalism, please PLAYTEST your maps before submission. Nothing looks dumber than a map that obviously hasn't been tested. Having lots of bugs will definitely lower your score here.

Halloween_Madness_0.4.scx by ShizTheresABear
THEME: 10/10
It's a madness with all sorts of horror creatures, cool.
FUN: 20/25
Very fun map, and very original for a madness. The income system is what makes it so different and fun.
PROFESSIONALISM: 13/15
Very well-made, the only bug I found was one occasion when it refused to transfer the building.
TOTAL: 43/50 - First Place! 600 minerals!

Revenant RPG v1.03.scx by DevliN
THEME: 10/10
A haunted hospital with some "experiments". Works for me.
FUN: 15/25
A fun, but strange, and definitely bugged up map.
PROFESSIONALISM: 10/15
Sign triggers preserve and spam you endlessly until you leave. Players were able to get their shuttles out. The bugs really ruined this map.
TOTAL: 35/50 - Second Place! 400 minerals!

You can stop reading here. I refuse to award a third place prize.

HorroRs_dream.scx by HorroR
THEME: 5/10
Your name being HorroR does not necessarily qualify as horror.
FUN: 10/25
WTF? There were two horrors, a player slot with no vision, and no ending. We killed stuff, got the end, defeated Sean Connery and nothing happened. We even killed off Clan [MM], and still nothing. Overall, I didn't understand this map.
PROFESSIONALISM: 5/15
Needs an ending. Also, I think you forgot to set the force four slot to Computer.
TOTAL: 20/50

horrorbottom.scx by Mp)7-7
THEME: 10/10
A haunted house. I'll take it.
FUN: 5/25
The first time through my broodling died from running out of energy. The second time something killed me, then it creates a new broodling that doesn't have energy problems. Of course, at that point, it decided to spawn broodlings ENDLESSLY. Then eventually it started spawning Zerglings, ENDLESSLY. Then the walls started popping up. After managing to kill them (which took several minutes and thousands of lines of UNIT UNPLACABLE spam), I reach the spot on the map I deemed the end and it just gives me a defeat trigger. Oh, the pain!
PROFESSIONALISM: 2/15
This map has more bugs than Bugs Bunny himself. I put more effort into this news post than you did into testing this.
TOTAL: 17/50

Take this contest. Put it in a box. Set it on fire. Put the remains in a space shuttle. Send it to the sun. Seriously. This contest needs to be buried in a forty foot deep grave before people find out about it. It really wasn't good timing due to the server move and the uploading/e-mail bugs, so we can't blame only the mappers. These are fixed, so hopefully things are going to fixed next month. I'll get the prizes out and download links up and your memories erased soon.

Don't forget we had to give Syphon the zergling an honourable death, by means of firing line.

I actually got a victory trigger I think. I think cause you took the top path and I took the middle.

I was going to try something stupid, but never really got around to dling SCPM.

You know the classic "stare really close and suddenly something scares you to death!"

Haha aas I said, I had 1 day to redo the entire map and couldn't test once. But ah well. Thanks for the minerals! biggrin.gif

lol, yup I sent you the wrong one, I knew one did that and the other was good, but I am dumb for ending the wrong one. Next time I will keep only on version!

I guess this month was a pretty bad month.

That's funny because the contest theme was so simple. I was expecting tons of entries because of Halloween.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2006-11-12 at 13:02:50
Knowing that that map took you 20 minutes to make, I'm going to look at the maps that it took you much longer to make now and download them.

So give us the next contest theme Moose. And fix the first post - the theme is not Forests.

I hate to say this, but shoudn't horror get a prize by default, even though the map sucked?

He still got third place; remember that contest a ways back, with only one good map?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2006-11-12 at 14:12:52
I demand credit for my map. And third place prize!

Lies! The only part of the map that I made up was the irish men coming out of the flying potatoes. The rest of the map was your idea. And I triggered/terrained/placed everything.

This contest was so bad, we prefer the nostalgia. After all, September: Forests, is technically correct, no?
