Hey guys, I was playing around on my computer today (obviously) and I was bored and I was screwing around and decided to play Starcraft v1.0 again. After playing this I quickly found it was no fun alone, but that perhaps if we set up a private server we could have some good times playing Starcraft in the past . Basically what I want to know is: if I set up a private server for Starcraft v1.0 would any of you be interested in playing? No because there's already plenty enough of them, and if there ended up being enough people on it to not be totally pointless, blizzard would just shut it down and sue you. And because no matter how bad b.net might lag, I'm sure blizzard's servers don't lag as bad as some-one's PC will.
depends.... 1.0 as in alpha beta or what?
you should be able to play it over podolsk, have you tried??? and the version you have is it seriously 1.00, I only have 1.05

Don't be so pessimistic. I don't know if it would lag or not, but if it did I would just shut it down and say "good try".QUOTE(Sie_Sayoka @ Nov 14 2006, 01:47 AM)

1.0 as in the first version of Starcraft publicly released.QUOTE(Kookster @ Nov 14 2006, 01:53 AM)

I haven't tried anything yet, I want some interest before I waste my time. The version I have is seriously 1.00, I am an ancient Starcraft player .I have a better idea, set up a beta server.
DEAD, doesn't the beta version crash all the damn time?
There wouldn't be any of the Brood War units though, would there? I don't think it would be that fun without the Brood War units. I would rather Beta over 1.0, but I don't think Beta is really playabale without doing some work, which I probably wouldn't be interested to do to just play Beta :\

Well, tec and other guys kinda fixed the beta. They even made a program that lets you join normal B.net with beta but it doesn't work for me.
Don't you think stable Starcraft would be better?
Have you read patch.txt?
i would, but only if you can make it work whitout bugs. I tried to play on private wow server but stopped couse it was more bugs then the bones in my body.
Alright Moose, MORE stable than beta. I'd say it's not that unstable.
Silk, I don't think 1.0 is very buggy.
Doesn't 1.0 have different unit stats? And why not just play on Podolsk?
Yeah, a lot has changed since 1.0. A minor example is that the resource thing (that tells how many resources you have) used to be blue text, and is now green. That's obviously nothing to be excited about, but a lot of stuff is different. Back in the days of 150 minerals for a spawning pool, 4pool was teh pwn. What is Podolsk?
Good ol days... Where Melee maps reigned supreme, and zergling bloods could be seen for miles....
I still want to know HOW we'd patch down to 1.00.

Same, the earlyest version I have ever seen is 1.05. And our downgrader only goes to 1.07.
Actually, its quite simple... Reinstall starcraft (with of without Broodwar) and you have v1.00 Using this, maybe a host can run a private (most likely LAN) server and people can join using fixed launchers that enable them to use more than 4 gateways.
We don't need the spam. Also, that wouldn't work. My StarCraft CD is 1.07 //Syphon
Little bit of stability can't compare with differences that the beta has.
Reinstalling SC wouldn't help if you had a version 1.05 CD. I suppose you could downgrade by recieving the files from someone with a 1.00 version (the files necessary are StarDat.mpq, patch_rt.mpq, Starcraft.exe, storm.dll and battle.snp, I think.), but I don't really see the point.
Podolsk is a private PvPGN server that we use to play Mod Night on. It's hosted somewhere in Russia, I believe.
I don't think you could use podolsk, because early versions don't allow you to choose your server...
If you choose Podolsk as your server on a post-1.07 version and then downgrade it should still have Podolsk selected as the default server.
Doesn't it choose the fastest though?

Because Brood War starts out at 1.05, the regular SC starts at 1.00! Wouldnt this allow the stacking of Zerg units, I have some great ideas for defense stacking maps in that category.
