Every time I saw the preview for this (Happy Feet), I wanted to tear my eyes out.

But when I read my Friday movie section of the paper, they gave it an A-.

If anyone sees this, could they try to explain how it could be so good?

Probably something to do with critics liking musicals. And it's not meant for people above the age of twelve, probably.

I was forced to see it (don't ask...) and it's actually not as bad as the previews would make it seem.

There are a few amusing moments (the bird who rants about his "alien abduction" after being captured, tagged and released by scientists got a laugh out of me), and as Centreri said, it's aimed for a specific demographic.

Apparently dancing penguins > secret agents.

How many tickets a movie sells at a theatre is not in 100% direct relation to how good the film actually is.

Look at blade runner.

True. True. Seeing as to people of my age are enjoying such a movie, makes me feel like taking my sister as an excuse to watch that movie so that I can watch it biggrin.gif

It works the other way though; total crap films can't gross $43 million in one weekend.

3D computer animated film + fluffy animals + popular music + romantic story = WIN

I totally agree with DTBK on this one, I was scared to even open this topic because I thought it might be someone ranting on about how cute it was.

There is just no way im going to see it, no way.

I just saw this movie and actually loved it. Its a really nice tale about a penguin trying to fit in. Like Finding Nemo, it has its super pessimistic spouts. In the end, though, its a pretty good social satire.

On a side not, Robin Williams is freakin' hilarious in this. He totally steals the show.

Deep down I want to watch this video, but I feel like I'm too old to watch films like this. My friends would be like "ROFLMAO!! THAT MOVIE IS FOR KIDZZ!!" and it would feel even more awkward if I was sitting in the theater with my parents in the middle of a crowd of little children. Only way I feel confident about watching this movie is if my girlfriend thinks the animals are cute and want to watch this. Problem is I don't have a gf yet.

Its not a kids movie at all. There are way too many sexual/stereotypical jokes in there to make it a G film.

And its by the same guy who made Babe 2 (and produced Babe 1) if that gives you any sense of how the movie is. I'll still argue that Babe isn't a kids film.

Oh and he did the Mad mother-freakin' Max movie in the late 70's! That deserves some honorable mention.

Ha, I haven't seen this yet. But if I ever wanted to, I'd have the perfect excuse: A 5 year old kid. ;p

I like animated movies anyways. I went to see The Incredibles without some kind of "excuse".

Yea It wasn't that bad. It was pretty good.

Anyways, about Happy Feet,

What was so good about it?

I was forced to see it with my little cousin over thanksgiving. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be it had some funny parts. The was kinda wierded out when it had sexual jokes in it. Its a kids movie. I was stunned.

See that's what I was thinking until I realized how great it is that they can throw in "adult" jokes into a kids film without worrying about the kids freaking out. Its like the same with the Simpsons, where there are tons of jokes for mature viewers yet it can be seen as a kid's cartoon as well.

The Incredibles pwned.

True, but it appeals to kids everywhere. I used to watch it before I even knew what it all meant in the grand scheme of things.

Well, Moulin Rouge (the 2001 version) made $14.7 million in its first weekend of wide release, and its total takes worldwide were some $177 million. And it was easily the worst movie I've ever seen. So I can't entirely trust your judgement there. Rather, I would like to quote P. T. Barnum: 'No one ever lost money underestimating the taste of the american public.'.

I usually don't. If they have good animation, okay, but if they have bad animation then they need a good story to help counteract it. For example, I liked Final Fantasy and Shrek, but Finding Nemo and Toy Story weren't so good.
