It's highly insulting to see the entirety of musical history except an exceedingly small number of decades of Western music lumped into one giant category.
Ahem, its the entirety of one cultures music throughout that history. What should get on your nerves is how most of the other stuff produced outside of europe at these times goes under the classification of "World" music.

Baroque isn't a genre of music, its a period during which music was made. You can't classify by Baroque.
The Baroque period of music is also different than the Baroque art period. (The dates are similar, but not equal.) Both emphasized detail and structure.

What's the difference between rap and hip hop?
Hip hop tends to have more of a beat to it. Also it is more likely to include a female singer. Hip Hop also tends to focus more upon the chorus, and has more catchy jingles.
For the most part I enjoy listening, to either classical, (Mainly Piano concertos.) lyric-less jazz, (lyrics destroyed the movement for me.) hardcore rap, (Some of Jay Z's stuff, Method & Red are well known ones.) or a sort of alternative style that can best be described of as sounding like
The Cat Empire's musical qualities mixed with
Jonathan Coulton, which has thus far been unobtainable.
That and anything just plain goofy is genius. (Bonzo Dog band, TMBG, Some A Capella groups)
