I was wondering in my process of making a map if I am the only person who does not rename locations (Y'know, leaving them as "Location ##".) The best way I thought of to find the answer to this is a poll.
Yay... a poll with an actual purpose and not meant to be random spam... a first? I hope not. Yes, but then I get confused when I forget to rename them. I end up wondering what location 7 is for, delete it, remember what it is, and then recreate it.
I rename them all the time. If I don't, then I can't keep track of what's what. Renaming them "Zerg 2 Main Town" or "Shuttles Spawn Here" makes things so much easier.
Always. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to organize everything without renaming them.
None of the very basic maps I made have ever named locations. Most of the time, all my locations fit on one screen.
Did I tell you I suck at making maps?

Back when I had original StarEdit, I didn't rename locations... But then again, I usually only had 100 or so... Maybe I just have a better memory.
I rename mine but I've seen a map were someone had 157 locations but none of them named.

If it's a basic map with only few locations (Melee) that's why.
But other than that Bounds, Defences, RPGS, etc. must be renamed, otherwise everyone would just be plain confused.

Compression renames locations back to their original name.

Melee doesn't use any locations at all. There are no location specific triggers in the default melee triggers anyway.
Lol, retard roundup
That was an awesome map, made by a true professional.

If you see my maps they say:
"Spawn this thing here"
"make location follow observer"
Yeah, my locations are named after ideas.
I not only name them, I usually name ones that are supposed to do similar things with the similarity first so they stay near each other and in alphabetical order. So instead of, say, choosing something to spawn like this:
Aragorn
Gandalf
Legolas
Gimli
I would do it like this:
Option - Aragorn
Option - Gandalf
Option - Legolas
Option - Gimli
That way they all stay together and it makes creating the triggers easier.

I don't see why it's necessary to call me a retard.
I can't imagine map making without renaming locations and switches... it would be such a pain in the ars.
Not everyone renames switches... Even if I was making a bound I wouldn't rename locations...

Last I checked they gave them the null string. Even in StarEdit placing a location uses a string...
20 Yes, 0 No... Maybe I should vote in my own poll. Yay. How do you not get confused with 100+ locations just numbered?

i'm actually pretty sure thats not true. from what i remember, blizzard was kind enough to hardcode or w/e the standard names into SC and not use the custom string limit.

He wasn't. He was talking about one of deathawk's maps. I already warned him and ended up striking the warn down after finding out for sure. ;p

Ok.
But he didn't really say what he was talking about. After he said "Lol, Retard roundup" it was kinda like he was talking about me and that I was stupid that I didn't know that.
That's exactly what I thought too. ;p
really i always rename locations makes it twice as ezy.but i know some people i wont say who but they are good bound and defence mappers that dont rename and somehow they make good maps without a prop lol.well i rename

Simple. I don't place them randomly... it takes a bit of planning, though.QUOTE(Zeratul_101 @ Nov 29 2006, 08:43 PM)

Really? Then why is it when I make a map then go edit the string table I see "Location 0", "Location 1", "Location 2", etc.?
