I was wondering if anyone else here has been playing with the Supreme Commander beta. I just downloaded it today and gave it a try, and I must say I'm impressed.

My initial impressions were pretty bad (the UI is rather cluttered and I was lost for several minutes), but after playing for a while I really got into it. The game is rather complex and the races have unique styles. My only complaints are the multiplayer service (the chat program is seperate, so the game must be restarted each time you enter a match) and a few quirks (incorrect icons, a little bit of unit AI mishaps) that should be ironed out by the final release.

Here's the download if anyone wants to play me:

It looks alright, I guess. I will give it a try maybe when it is final. But personally, confusing games don't really appeal to me... maybe I'll like this better than that DEFCON game, though tongue.gif

No it's not. You can still get it if you have a free GameSpy account.

Nope, I play Warcraft tongue.gif. Looks interesting though. Doubt there is a high-quality map editor or battlenet-type gameplay sad.gif.

Time will tell... wink.gif

My new favorite unit has to be the UEF Tech 3 Artillery Emplacement (Duke)... hearing that thing go off is amazing. (It is a large, high-damage artillery cannon that has incredibly long range, and takes FOREVER to build.) Best. Gun. EVER. I can't even imagine what kind of damage the Tech 4 Strategic Artillery deals... fear.gif

I've been looking forward to this game ever since I saw it in a PC Gaming magazine! Doubt it will be as good as Starcraft though...

... wtf are you talking about. this game is awesome =/ i personally like this better than starcraft melee style.

Eh, I think that StarCraft is better. (I prefer more special weapons than generic units, plus SC has such a versatility of games in UMS...)

And here's a picture of the Duke Artillery Emplacement, for those who don't have the game.

Still visible: the smoke trail from an outgoing shell.

The red dashed line on the minimap is the range of the cannon. This is a large 6 player map.

Where can I find the system specs? It looks cool enough to download, but I want to see if the game would work under my crap computer.

Is it multiplayer only, or is there a single player?

Well, it won't work with my Radeon 9200 video card, if that helps...

The beta is multiplayer only, although if a player drops, a computer AI will take over for them.

Yeah, in the state the game is in now, they are not releasing system requirements, as they are likely to change, and are working towards optimizing the game now. Although, for the beta, this is the requirements..

Multiplayer Beta System Requirements (beta-only, not final game spec):

Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP (SP2 recommended)
Processor: 1.8 GHz or greater; 3.0 Ghz or greater, dual core, recommended
RAM: 512 MB or greater; 2 GB recommended
Hard Drive: 3 GB available hard disk space
Video: 128 MB video RAM or greater, with Vertex Shader / Pixel Shader 2.0 support;
ATI X800 XL or greater, nVidia GeForce 6800 or greater recommended
Audio: Sound card or on-board audio component, speakers or headphones
Internet: 56.6 Kbps Internet connection required; Cable/DSL speeds with 24 Kbps upstream per opponent recommended.

I do not get how to download it with that gamespy program, it's not working. ~.~

WTF? They really need to tone down the system requirements. The recomended stuff is pretty high end.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Voyager7456(MM) on 2006-12-02 at 22:11:57
The game is pretty graphics intensive... and I imagine with all the projectiles paths calculated with collision detection and physics, CPU heavy as well.

It says that my computer can't take it sad.gif. Aww I really wanted to play it.
