Member (Trial) - New member to SEN. Member may not advance until s/he has been registered on SEN for more than 14 days (2 weeks) AND has made more than 30 posts. (remember in v5 that all posts will add to the cumulative)
-May not make more than 10 posts per 24 hours.
-May not post in certain forums? (not sure. Maybe a Serious Discussion restriction)
-Members in this group inactive for 14 days shall be deleted.

All members in Member (Trial) who have been a member for more than two weeks will go on a list. A Global Moderator or Administrator is to examine them and promote them if the account request is a valid.

Member - Has recieved promotion from Global Moderators and/or Administratiors. Has all normal privileges. Member may not advance until s/he has been registered on SEN for more than 60 days (2 months) AND has made more than 300 posts.
-Members in this group inactive for 90 days shall be deleted.

All Members registered on SEN for over 60 days and with 300 posts will go on a list. There may possibly be more v5-related requirements (vespene gas?! That will be explained in due time smile.gif). Either a Global Moderator or Administrator may promote them.

Regular - Has recieved approval from Global Moderators and/or Administratiors. Regular may not advance until s/he has been registered on SEN for more than 180 days (6 months) AND has made more than 700 posts.
-A forum will be created for all Regulars and above.
-Regulars and above will not have any automated deletion.

All Regulars registered on SEN for over 180 days and with 700 posts will go on a list. There may possibly be more v5-related requirements (vespene gas?! That will be explained in due time smile.gif). Only Administrators (perhaps Global Moderators will be able to as well) may promote them.

Veteran - Has recieved approval from Global Moderators and/or Administratiors. Veteran may not advance until s/he has been registered on SEN for more than 365 days (1 year) AND has made more than 1337 posts.

All Veterans registered on SEN for over 365 days and with 1337 posts will go on a list. There may possibly be more v5-related requirements (vespene gas?! That will be explained in due time smile.gif). Only Administrators may promote them.

Elite - The Elite completes the hierarchy for normal members.

Well, the approval thing might create lots of work for the staff. Plus it may not guarantee unwanted people are kept down the hierarchy (however you define those).

I think keeping it automated while using a good rep system would be the best way to go.

The question is then what rep system to use.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-11-30 at 17:34:19
I think all incoming members should be screened at some point. Maybe the Regular and Veteran promotions can become automated.

I'm just worried if there's lots of members that might become problematic. If there's enough people needing to be screened then it might either end up as a big traffic jam or cause a hasty screening process. I think rep would be the best way to handle screening, if implemented right. Just make new members specially sensitive to good or bad rep.

Certainly you'd want to screen veterans and elites, though.

It's better than what we have now and I intend to implement it. Another global moderator will probably be hired, and possibly even some staff given "screening" permissions.

Hijack the DLDBers to "approve" members. tongue.gif

I think the Trial-->Member can be automated. To be honest, I doubt it's a lot of work is you're able to come with some random post generators that come from that person. A quick glance and a button will determine if that person's acount is legit.

The idea of the trial member is to not give all the privileges to new members right away. I won't advocate an intense screening process, rather just to make sure that the account is valid... or as CheeZe says, "a quick glance and a button". Regular and above are the ones that will be more in-depth.

I concur. I think it would be more important to screen Veterans and Elites. I think the perfect example is 7-7. Though I know a lot of people like him, something about him perturbs me. And it may be the fact that he'll become "Elite" in less than 10 months automatically due to his posting spree.

If there was some sort of screening process for higher class ranks, that would be prevented - unless of course everyone else disagrees with me and thinks he does deserve this upcoming "Elite" promotion.

In fact, he already gained Elite and lost it. I agree, stronger screenings are needed for Regulars and Veterans, to prevent such an incident from happening again.

The Member(Trial) idea is good too, although I think it may be better if it were automated... maybe something like the member is automatically promoted to member after 2 weeks, 30 posts as long as their warn log remains clean.

#^%(Q^! At least try the reputation system? cry.gif

One addition though: move the Staff rating bound from 0.5 to 1.5 and allow increases for Staff faith in quality posts.

Now that I look at the restrictions of the trial membership, 10 posts per day may be a little too harsh. Perhaps 20 instead? 10 posts can easily be wasted in a Null-type forum.

And I'm always a supporter, DTBK. biggrin.gif Go rep system!

Are you open to wacky suggestions, or is the Moose's foot down?

The foot is halfway down, with no momentum. tongue.gif

Gives you just enough time to sneak in under the foot, only to be crushed when it finally does come down. Woot.

I think it all looks good; you can just automate the process only if it becomes too much to handle.

*pushes up*

At least try the rep system on v4..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2006-11-30 at 21:59:12
Why are you so bent on using that system? It's not effective nor popular.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2006-11-30 at 21:59:35
Prove it. I'm damn sure it's the latter, and you can't say it isn't the former without a practical example.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2006-11-30 at 22:02:32
It doesn't use logs. It's based on popularity. It's not based on competence of user.

Those who support it are those who don't understand it.

Are we talking about the same system?

The one you posted a million times before on this site?

I've thought of an easy system to make the screening process that Admins and GM's have to make much easier.

Have a list that can only be accessed by Staff members.
This list will contain all members who meet the post and day criteria to advance to the next level.
Yes/No system, 50% of Staff members need to have voted yes.

If Yes, then the member is automatically moved to the next group.
If No, then a notice is automatically generated to an Admin.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yenku on 2006-11-30 at 22:43:02
I like it that idea. Maybe 2/3 though.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2006-11-30 at 22:52:45
Beer, that system would take ever longer than the individual screening.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2006-11-30 at 22:59:50
Yes, but it doesn't put all the effort upon a few people. Plus theres far better chances of the entire Staff checking every aspect of the member than Admins and Globals alone.
