[center]Mini Mod Contest

Since people have been discussing this idea for quite some time, there will be a small mini-mod contest. There will be no specified theme; however, this contest will be limited on one unit. Yes; you heard me right. This single unit mod; however, will include all the various ways of modding a unit, grafting, iscripting, .GRP editing etc. I would like to see how creative people can get.


Guidlines
  • Everything in the mod must be made by you (or blizzard(don't take this wrong, if was originally in the game you can use it, but don't expect any points for this))
  • Put the file in a zip, and state the unit you have modded
  • You may only use one unit, feel free to mod others, but they will be ignored
  • The entry fee is a modded unit tongue.gif
  • PM me the zip, or attach it here


Judging Criteria

Corbo's System is quite useful, I will be using his system, with a few modifications
QUOTE
Glitchness
How well does your mod run? Does it have Glitches?  Units that crash the game will not be judged further.
This will be worth: 5 Points

Complexity
Was your mod easy to create? was It hard? It will be evaluated by the judges
This will be worth: 10 Points

Content
What exactly did you do? Did you just change the .DAT's?  Or did you do complete grafts, custom .GRPs, fully customized weapon animations and extensive editing of the iscript?
This will be worth: 15 Points

Originality
Is your mod a copy of another mod? This will be highly evaluated.
This will be worth: 10 points

Fun
Is Your mod fun? boring? another important thing highly evaluated.
This will be worth: 20 points

Theme
This may not make sense to some, but do your unit's abilities or spells make sense?  Did you give a marine recall, or Frag grenades?
This will be worth: 10 Points

Total: 70 points



Prizes

My minerals will be the pot, some of you may notice, that I don't exactly have the greatest sum of minerals for a pot, I would like some donations to raise the amount of potential winnings.

Current Pot: 3188 minerals
First Place: 4/7ths of the pot: 1821 minerals
Second Place: 2/7ths of the pot: 911 minerals
Third Place: 1/7th of the pot: 455 minerals

Intriguing... I'll be interested to see what people can come up with.

(And I'll be entering as well.)

Are GRP edits mandatory though? Do we literally have to use EVERY part of modding?

About the seige modes and turrets, yes, it can have seige mode, alternate mode type ability, and turrets but look at theme! It has to be applicable, or you'll suffer here. Although technically a seige tank is 4 units, most people not familiar with modding just think of it as one.

Morphs, I'm going to have to say no, because otherwise I get people making a single unit with 100 mediocre stages, the point is that these units are to have extensive editing. This isn't a mini race mod, this is a single unit modding contest. Although technically a seige tank is 4 units, most people not familiar with modding just think of it as one. Most people don't think of larvae and every zerg unit as the same.

You don't have to use every part of modding, everything is fair game, I stated in one of the rules that you can use stuff that's already in the game, if you want, but it won't be judged.

To be 100% precise I think that you should state that the contest entry should be "one independent units.dat entry with its properties'. Technically, siegeing is the same as morphing - you get a unit with a different ID than the original, so if you don't allow morphinh,neither allow siegeing. You may allow a special case here - when the original and the other ID unit are very similar to each other (like the original ST), but I wouldn't gor for it, really. The contest is about making all the best out of ONE, SINGLE unit, heck it's even called a single-unit contest,no?
Turrets are ok (they're just a DAT property), but there should be no turrets-to-turrets. If it is to be fair, that's how I see it, but it's just me smile.gif

Well, hmmm. The two units would have to be incredibly similar here, when I say it has to apply, I mean burrowing with a seige tank animation could be exactly the same idea here. SC just uses another .GRP, iscript, and .DAT entry, but they're essentially the same idea.

Sure, why not? But I won't be judging the creativity of the mine itself.

And, on the subject of morphs, I don't really care if your unit is morphed from another, or morphs into another, I just won't judge you by the others it morphs to and from.

You know, what the heck, if you want to use unit morphs as a kind of 'mode' effect because you can't use seige tank seige mode, then go ahead, but they should be seemingly the same unit.

For example, if you make a fighter that can switch between being fully armored, and morph quickly into one that has a weapon, go ahead and use morph for that. But watch applicability!!! And I'd change the egg .GRP so I don't notice it.

Don't forget, part of the process is telling me what unit you modded, and possibly how to build it.
